5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

yes, i agree on this as i met the same problem.

Why, after updated with ISO5.0.1 , the battery will be down1% every 3-4minutes.

Is this OK?

The 'miniature world' has its limitations. Intensive usage...moderate usage...light usage...there are all kinds of users and all kinds of usage patterns.

I agree with you that there are differences between Apple and non-Apple functionality. We have choices. Isn't that great?! I am a recent convert to the Apple fold. And at a ripe, old fifty-three, I'd venture to say somewhat of an oddity. Within the last few months I've gone Apple in computing (an '06 MacBook) and a 3GS iPhone. Sure. There are pros & cons either way. In some ways, I'd say that the Android to iPhone comparison is valid...in other ways, not so much.

I'd say that if I were a prolific traveler, like you, I'd look into a piggyback battery case. Since I restarted my iPhone (yes, I know it sounds simply goofy) after the 5.0.1 upgrade, I am able to use many of the services to which you refer for the entire day.

I'm confident that this battery thing wil be resolved. Advances in technology, especially when such an enormous number of people are involved, come with attending difficulties. Such is life.

Perhaps your experience is different with flimsy 'resets', but mine is not good. I had posted earlier on this forum that by simply doing a hard reset and setting up my phone as new, then configuring as it was before, that perhaps my battery drain problem was solved. It was not. Note that by doing a hard reset, I have gone two steps further than just restarting (with the assumption that by 'restarting' you mean holding down the power and home buttons to reboot the phone - I didn't read). My phone still drains like it did before I performed the hard reset (iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1):

• Using iPod w/ bluetooth in Airplane mode, no cell reception: 14% battery drop per hour
• Using iPod w/ bluetooth NOT in Airplane mode, with no cell reception: 15% battery drop per hour
• Doing nothing (standby) NOT in Airplane mode, no cell reception: 8.5% battery drop per hour
• Doing nothing (standby) in Airplane mode, no cell reception: 0.5% battery drop per hour

Based on this, the problem is obviously network related, not necessarily related to iCloud, as I've seen speculated here.

Personally I have a problem with the concept of paring down all the network services so I can sustain battery life. The phone is sold as a device that accomplishes 'all these great things', not as a device that accomplishes 'all these great things' as long as you turn them off. (Yeah, if I was in a life or death situation I'd just turn off the phone to maintain battery life.)

Like I said...if it helps a few, it's better than nothing. I do not doubt that there are numerous causes for numerous issues. I am not proposing that my 'fix' is universal...just saying it helped me.

Not an issue. I read this forum in the hope that someone will post the wooden stake needed to kill the battery vampire (someone else's term), but so far it doesn't exist - just want to make that clear. For God's sake, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Same here, battery life is worse than ever on my iphone 4. 😠

I find that battery life has gotten worst by at least %30.

Battery life was amazing on iOS 5.0

ios 5.0.1 has made my battery siutation worse. it lasts not even a full day. Before the update i had NO battery problems. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!!!

APPLE techs... can someone just confirm that you are aware of the issue before half of us return the iphone.... tell us anything... working on it - what problem? - update coming.... how about some customer courtesy.....

I owned almost every Apple product starting with an Apple 2e .. this is by far my biggest dissapointment... with Jobs now gone.. is this a sign of things to come under the new management? hope not....

A variation on this problem - had my iPhone 4 plugged into my iMac to charge 3 nights ago, and a Software Update box came up on the Mac giving me the option to upgrade the iPhone to IOS 5.0.1

I declined the upgrade to 5.0.1, but ever since then the iPhone battery has been draining at a rapid pace, similar to the problem everyone else is describing!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am playing music, Facebook, and on Safari just to keep checking up this forum.

Assume all your heavy usage, when it runs down, just charge.

It is pointless complaining, when we are already know they are doing something to help us.

Let's just all wait.

Since it is already like that. Play music, or do whatever **** to drain it down 0%. Use 3G.

I think the phone is trying too hard to get things connected once the network is bad.

@8am unplug the charging. Use fb for a min. Still 100%

@9am turn off wifi, turn on data and Bluetooth before driving my car, reached after 15mins, change another car which do not have a Bluetooth connection, after 25 mins of driving, the batt have gone down 8%, the phone was in idle all the way.

@1015am my Batt was 90%, not a phone call or browsing was made.

I had tried all of the fixes that have been suggested with no success. Being a compulsive problem solver, I tried once again by resetting all settings, draining the battery until the phone shut off and recharging to 100%.

In Notifications, I have phone, messages, reminders, hanging with friends and twitter turned on.

In Location Services, I have Siri and Find My Phone turned on.

ICloud is off for all but Find My Phone.

Push is off.

Email is Inactive.

I am now 3 hours in Standby and still at 100%, whereas yesterday I had lost 20% in that amount of time.

I am going to turn email and push on, and will report back :)

UPDATE: After a full day, this where I am at.

Usage: 2 hours, 34 minutes

Standby: 14 hours, 15 minutes

Battery at 43%

A lot better than yesterday for sure, but good? I don't think so!
