5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

Blackberry???? Seriously??? Those things have the worst graphics I've ever seen not to mention how bulky they are. They're like the old school brick phones, I really don't see why so many people get them lol. I prefer a phone that shows how technology ha changed it not some lame looking phone like blackberry lol

I completely agree! After the update I actually told people how excited I was that my battery had been at 100% for hours of use. Immediately after going below 100% it has been decreasing at about 1% every 2-5 minutes. During writing this I've lost 2%. I hate Apple and will never buy another one of their products again.

You hate Apple now over a software issue? Haha! Pfft!

For anyone new to the thread be sure to go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:

1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)

2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd

4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases. It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple. Good Luck!

I have already tried these steps to address the issue as well as many other troubleshooting measures. None work. My battery barely lasts 12 hours, dropping rapidly all day. Just when I think it's having better battery one day, it's terrible again te next. It's not a hardware issue because I have had my 4s replaced 3 times and am still experiencing issues. Unfortunately, the people at the genius bar are quick to trade the hardware and don't want to spend any time trying to look through my phone and figure it if there is a software issue. Apple needs to fix this it's ridiculous.

Yeah apple makes bad products. Sure, they look sleek, but at the end of the day I've had far fewer problems and much easier solutions with much cheaper products. I've never been so frustrated with a cell phone. All of apples solutions are placebos, including updates and resets. Don't be fooled by sleek design.

Great work apple! That's the biggest piece of junk you have ever produced. I am writing my last words. Today, 8.30am unplugged 100%, now 1.20pm 3% - light use!

I've been having the same problem with my iPhone 4. Had no problem with iOS 5.0.0 but as soon as 5.0.1 was released I'm struggling to get my battery to last any more than 6 or 7 hours. Anyway I have just spent an hour on the phone with Apple technical support who in the end have concluded that I have a software issue (no s**t). Official word is that they have been told nothing with regards to a further fix being released. All they have been told is that someone is working on it (lots of information there). Anyway for the time being they have recommended backing up to a computer (not iCloud as they feel iCloud may also be hoarding bugs) and doing a restore then back up directly from computer. I'm in the process of doing so and will report back within the next 6 to 36 hours depending on battery life

It's software not hardware. Has nothing to do with "the biggest piece of junk ever produced" as soon as they push new software, it will be fine. It happens when they completely write a new operating system. And there are still a ton of apps that haven't been updated to ios 5 that have memory leaks.

Nonsense. It does happene - but it shouldn't.

This is a cultural, leadership issue that involves quality and testing - at the very least. Your giving it a free pass because it's so complicated is exactly the wrong approach and why Apple is in this mess. Testing rigor has dropped and needs to be fixed. If you cannot test it - you should not make it. And this is not some one off weird issue that involves some odd and rare combination of apps and buttons. it should have been found in testing.

As for 5.0.1 making it worse. My guess is they went for solving symptoms and not the root cause. These are all signs of Apple becoming something les than stellar. Which is a shame.

I'm having the exact same issue - Within 5 hours, I can get down to 20% from 100%. Apple need to get it sorted!!!
