5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

Hey guys!

Same problem here (Portugal).

Put the iPhone to charge yesterday. Unplugged it at 2.30AM (100%) and went to sleep.

Woke up at 11h, surprise, surprise: it drained 29%!! This is not normal! It cannot be!!

At 5AM I woke up and took a peek at the clock - 97%, "This is great!", I thought... At 11 - 71%...

With NO USE, ALL apps off (not one in the background, I always check by double clicking the Home Button), 3G off, Wi-fi off, push off, fecth mail off, diagnosis off, Siri off, Location Services off, everything you can imagine: OFF!! ****, It makes me wonder why on earth I want an iPhone for???! God forbid playing a game or watch a movie!!

Just a terrible disapointment 😟 and it's better than it was, so you can see that it was REALLY bad!

Already did restore's in DFU mode, not in DFU mode, reset network conection, reset data, bla bla bla, bla bla bla...tried this to:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3482379?answerId=16970221022#16970221022)

No success...

I can't understand what's going on because, it's 14:15PM and The battery is at: 66%, which means a loss of 5% in 3 hours...everything off, no calls or text messages, pretty much the same as during the night...so why this inconsistant behaviour??!! I don't get it...I just don't!!

The A5 procceser uses more power on the 4S and that makes the average battery on standby 200 houers and the 4 300 houers

The problem with the statements of 200 hours standby is that none of us are getting anywhere near that. I restored the phone as new and loaded no apps, per Apple Supports request and got barely 10 hours of battery with the phone sitting unused on a table.

If you told me that iOS 5.0.1 changed my iphone 4 into an iphone 3G I'd believe you.

I have an iphone 4... Not a 4S. So the A5 processor theory doesn't mean anything to me.

It is 100% clear. With iOS 5.0 on my iphone 4 battery was perfect. With iOS 5.0.1 on my iphone 4 battery is crap. Period.

And I repeat. I have an iphone 4. Iphone 4, not 4S. An iphone 4 without the A5 so you can't use that "it requires more power" theory.

iOS 5.0.1 has caused the following:

Battery drain issue, 2-3% every 10 minutes of use - prior: incredible battery life.

Performance issues with Camera, opening the actual app, taking pictures, saving the picture. Take about 5 seconds to be able to take a 2nd picture - prior: opened fast. Quick picture taking. 3 pictures in 5 seconds.

Performance issues with Safari. The phone is rubbing slow. Web pages load slowly.

Performance issues making calls. Suddenly there is a 10 plus second delay in dialing. Sometimes it doesn't do anything and I have to end call and try again. Prior: not an issue.

Performance issues all around. Typing slow/delays. Opening apps. Writing emails.

In bares repeating...If you told me that iOS 5.0.1 changed my iphone 4 into an iphone 3G I'd believe you, plain and simple.

I lost 4% battery life, went from 100% to 96% writing this in the past 8 minutes. So stupid. So ridiculous. Ive been patient for a month now, constantly charging my phone. I gave you a month to fix it. You haven't even acknowledged us.

Actually Davepj10, I got better battery life on my three year old iPhone 3G than I get on my new 4S with iOS 5.0.1

You hit the nail on the head Davepj10... I have exactly all the same issues you describe and I am also running the iPhone 4G. Ever since that update... Everything is slowed down and of course the battery issue too. The A5 chip theory holds no weight. I think many more people then apple realizes are experiencing issues but are not reporting them... Maybe they don't realize they have issues. Some friends of mine work in offices keeping their phones plugged in all the time so they dont notice the battery issues.

Agreed with and same experiences as Davepj10. All the same issues here, and I have an iPhone 4.

Come on Apple, staying silent on this is a real class act! You've got to at least put out a notification about an expected update, something of some sort that assures me of a fix. Like the other users out here, I've tried out everything possible under the sun and I can't go without my phone needing a charge every 6 hours. And I'm just using it for emails and brief phone calls. This is the first time ever I purchased an Apple product, and I am really confused about what the hype was all about, given the way you're handling the situation.

Sid, they have done both of what you're requesting. Just because the notification hasn't come straight to your phone, doesn't mean they haven't acknowledged a problem. They have. And they just released beta 2 of the new software due out soon.

Well to what you're saying, I like to say and believe those things too and i have been patiently waiting all this while. But I am facing a severe battery drain problem and it was just too much frustration with the device that i paid souch for, to keep in. So I had to say what I felt. Sorry if it went against some Apple fans here.

Apple is sticking right to the strategy they have always followed with product issues. We can whine and complain all we want, but they won't announce a thing. Not a chance........

Not so much a fan, just saying that I'm case you didn't know, or hadn't heard, it's been addressed. Some of the problem is apps aren't compatible with iOS 5 yet. Those always take a while. But the second beta just came out. They need time to test it before they release a mistake. There are 200,000,000 iOS devices out there. And tossing something out untested doesn't make sense either.

They have? I just did a search on Apple's media site and also did a Google search. No mention whatsoever about any notification of any update or fix. Not even an acknowledgement by Apple that there is an issue as being described throughout these 1,212 posts and 75,207 views (so far). Is there a magical communication that I've missed? If so, can you post a link to it?

tednovak-> The Beta releases are not available to the public, only to developers so that is why you probably cant find info on it yet.

Thanks you very much. That gives me a bit of reassurance. However, it should be noted that this has been the only notice of it being addressed or even being acknowledged as an issue. Those communications should be coming from Apple - not necessarily citing a specific date of release, but at least a recognition of a problem and an on-going effort to address it. That's Communications 101.
