5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

I read herethat there is an update available for the 4S, bumping iOS ver 5.0.1(?). Does anyone know what this is about (what I'm really asking is if anyone knows if this is battery performance related!)?

The real question is whether anyone is brave enough to try it.

Reading a little further at other websites, I found that the update apparently doesn't get pushed to existing 5.0.1 platforms. It's a tweak to the version that only those upgrading will receive. What's up with that? Some sort of test deployment perhaps?

There is a Beta that is available to developers. It's open to the public, however there is an annual developer fee. It's intended to test and develop for the iOS platform. This is where the next public release of the software is. 2 versions have been released to developers to test. Thata why an update isn't out yet. There are a few hundred thousand people testing it. When the compile all the data and make the fixes, it will be released. I guess some people posting to this forum think this is going to happen overnight. It will be out soon.

Okay, there have been iOS 5.01 and 5.02 BETA builds for testing by developers.

With each new BETA release it is best to reset your iPhone and install the BETA for testing

This is the link to the just released actual iOS 5.01 Software Update, if you want read the "official FYI"

So if you have iOS 5.01 BETA or iOS iOS 5.02 BETA, then assume that it is necessary to reset your iPhone

and then use the normal update procedure to download and install the newest update.

Make sure about following normal "reset iPhone" precautions.

I am interested in seeing if this new iOS 5.01 update, not any of the beta builds, does fix the battery issues.

To clarify:

• The update that's caused the issue (5.01) isn't a beta - it was Released..
• There was speculation that a 5.02 would be released to address the issue, but if it existed it hasn't been made available to Developers as a Beta for testing yet.
• There has been a release of a Beta 5.1 (which was pulled again due to some issues).
• There's then been a second Beta 5.1 made available to Developers.
• Apple haven't ever made a public Release of a version they've not given to Developers in the Beta program first.
• The 5.1 Beta accessible to Developers contains nothing in its documentation to suggest a battery issue has been acknowledged or will be fixed as/when that Beta makes it way to Release.

You can read into those facts what you will.

Edit: there appears to have been a new build of 5.01 released silently (or so I read today). Which makes one of my points above look incorrect, but as it's been released as the same version (just a different build) it still holds.

FIX THE 5.0.1 iOS TERRIBLE UPDATE OR LET US REVERT BACK TO iOS 5.0 which worked GREAT!!!

Tonight I picked up my third iPhone 4s in two weeks. All with battery drain problems. I wasn't even out of the parking lot with this third one when I realized it had dropped 2 percent in about 5 mins - with me not having done anything. It was still 5.0 so I hoped by upgrading to 5.0.1, it would fix the problem. The phone was pure, set up as a new phone with the photos and address book coming in from icloud. With the upgrade, it was draining nearly twice as fast. I'm gonna drain the battery tonight and do a complete recharge and see if its any better. I just don't want to spend the rest of the year going back to the Apple store.

Hello all...My Iphone 4s was perfect until las week. It shows the same time on usage as on stand by mode. I bought my phone in Canada and I´m from Brazil...bad news for me. I Tried to Reboot, deleted my recent apps, restarted my phone...tried almost everything. I already bought this phone with the 5.0.1 uptade. The battery isn´t terrible, but it is bad. I mean, the first week of use, was lasting 2,3 days. Now 1 day in stand by and it´s gone. I notice that some times the phone is hotter. Can u guys help me? Sorry for the english...

I'm not convinced that its a iOS problem, I suspect that its something to do with the Apps that are running on each phone... I am wondering if there are some runaway Apps that people have that are consuming battery even when not active..

I've had my iPhone for nearly a month, just checking my Usage data and it shows the following:

Time since last full charge

Usage : 1 Hour, 10 Minutes

Standby: 3 Days, 11 Hours

Battery : 62%

So I have 62% of battery life after nearly 3.5 days since my last full charge... This seems reasonable to me...

You may be right about runaway apps. I have an iPhone 4 and have had zero battery problems since updating to 5.0.1 the day after it first was issued. However, 2 days ago, I updated both my Facebook and Yahoo Fantasy Football apps, and now I'm going from 100% battery life to 80% battery life per 24 hours which I feel is very good battery life and reasonable, to 100% down to 60% in 24 hours, with no different usage on my part. Something is draining, and I think it is an app. Just a thought.

I am not sure if it just the apps and Apple support has to identify the exact issue. Last week, i was in a train listening to music via bluetooth stereo headset. No other app was running (I manually closed all of them) and only the location services was running apart from bluetooth. Started with 100% batter and within 75mins,the battery dropped to 64% .. yes from 100 - 64% in just little over an hour of listening to music via bluetooth. After that the drain didnt seem to stop even after i stopped bluetooth. eventually in 4 hrs the phone was dead!

Tired of waiting for Apple to acknowledge this as an issue or letting us know when a fix will be coming. So i went ahead and bought a backup battery charger - Mophie Powerstation and now carry it with me always. Its a pain but looks like Apple doesnt care about this problem.

Apple puts out more software updates than any other company. And try to find a company that supports software for 3 year old phones. They care. The iPhone is their biggest money maker. It's going to be around and constantly innovating for years to come.

I dont deny the fact that Apple puts more software update than any other company. It would be a fair deal if Apple could acknowledge that they are aware of this issue and working on it and estimated time of when it will be available. After paying $400 for a product that has defects, i think it is absolutely right to ask for this small reciprocatory action from a company that produces awesome products.

Battery drain is a pain and the reasons may be difficult to detect. two days ago i changes my password for my Apple Id causing all ICloud clients to ask for the new password to connect. The last client to update was my wifes IPhone - I actually forgot it - and only because she complained heavily about battery excessive drain (100% to 0% in less than 24 hours) I realized that the ICloud client could be the reason. After giving it the new password the battery life is back to normal (4-5 days with normal use of the phone).
