    4S running 5.0.1

I am so happy to hear I am not alone. The other night after doing what some people have suggested to save battery life. I drained until iphone turned itself off, then recharged to 100%. I slept for 5 hour with phone on standby and woke up to 60% battery life. I can't believe the issues that WE are having. I never had 1 bit of issues with either my 3GS or my 4. It is very depressing to make the investment in the upgrade for the results we are getting. I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel for this issue as well as some of the others I am working through now with my 4S

I noticed that even my ipad2 is having the same battery fast draining problem as my iphone4 after the update from ios 5 to 5.0.1. Any ipad user noticed that? Not sure if I had to post this here or in the ipad section... Anyway, Its definately an ios problem, what is bothering me is why Apple is taking so lomg to fix this?

To you guys that are coming in half way through the conversation. They have already announced a delay with the software fix a few days because of some memory leaks. They are working on it. And in fact, of you read more than one or 2 posts in this thread, you will find that apple is contacting people in this very thread about the battery problems. They are also putting tracking software on people's phones to narrow the problem down. So before you jump off a bridge about apple taking so long, read what's going on.

While I am sure that is the case this does not fix the root cause.

Just to clarify, there's only rumors of a delay to a possible update, In the same way that there were rumors that a fix would definitely be released last week.

Apple haven't published statement saying that any such update may be released - people relying on such rumours may be disappointed. And if they miss the cut-off point to return their faulty product and get a refund because of such rumours, that's a bad thing.

If you're in that situation of thinking of returning the device but are holding out because of these rumours of a possible official fix, you may want to consider how long you can wait versus when any "cooling off" period from your retailer expires and how accurate rumours of a fix may be.

Apple may well be contacting people who have the problem with their phones (they contacted me too), but that was a long time ago. And a problem being looked into by a support team is no guarantee that any software fix can be released.

I recently spoke to Apple techincal support about my 3GS now quickly losing power after updating to 5.0.1.  To their credit, free support for my phone expired a few weeks ago (just purchased it in Sept.), but they did speak to me for free.  I described the massive power drain (1% every two minutes at idle) and noted that I was watching the power drain as we talked on the phone.  She asked about various settings on the phone (they were all already set to her recommended settings).  I noted that the phone had lost 20% of its power in the last hour (from 100%) and that I had only used it to check my email once.  She put me on a brief hold to check something, came back on and informed me that the power usage was consistent with a phone operating properly.  She said that the phone's battery is rated to last 4-6 hours with "moderate use."  I asked if checking my email once during one hour was considered "moderate use."  She said it was. I very much preferred my out-of-rating battery life well in excess of 24 hours prior to the update.  I hope that Apple doesn't remain satisfied with 4-6 hours of battery life while the phone is virtually idle.  I certainly am not.

I have some good news. I took my phone into the apple store today (made an appointment) because my phone was draining battery life like crazy -- about 10% an hour just being idle (no apps running). The guy ran a diagnostic and it showed my phone battery was fine, but it did have some numbers that alerted him. He suggested my download of the latest version of software might not have uploaded incorrectly. He suggested the connection may have dropped off while it was updating or the cord I used wasn't working properly so he reinstalled my firmware from the apple store....

That was 6 hours ago and I'm pleased to report that instead of 10% an hour, I've lost just a meager 7 % of my battery life in 6 hours... I'll take it...

The one bad thing was the firmware reinstall deletes EVERYTHING on your phone so backup before you go in, if you go in, if you want your photos and videos and the rest back...

And just fyi, my phone -- the 4S -- worked great out of the box on battery life. it only got ridiculously slow after the upgrade to that 5.0 thing designed to fix people's battery problems.....

    Hey Glamamylstomp,

Did u reinstall the iOS 5.0.1 update again or did the apple technician reinstall the factory iOS 5.0?

Anyone know how to revert back to the original iOS5.0? I've got an ipad2.

I think it is related to the time zone setting in location service!

turned off the option Time-zone adjustment and my battery was normal!

Will Apple will fix this bug

    Hey guys,

There may be a way to revert back to iOS 5.0, don't know if it will work, but going to try anyway...

Download iOS 5.0 for your appropriate apple device @:

    1) Www.osxdaily.com/2011/10/12/iOS-5-download-available/

    2) goto iTunes on ur pc and plug in ur device

    3) in ur device's name menu, hold down 'shift' key and click on 'restore' on iTunes

    4) then, a directory menu should magically pop up in which u select the iOS {ipsw} file u just downloaded in the link above, I.e. iOS 5.0!

Hopefully it'll work! I'll post an update or if anyone tried it, post feedback please.

Until the geeks at apple h/o sought those bugs in the new iOS i'll sticking to ios5.0

Uh oh, above revert process does not work! Apple themselves may have cut it off approval cos when it came down to verifying with apple server, it gave me an error message.

    Anyone had some luck?

Thats how all of the software updates are. When apple stops digitally signing them you can't revert back. That's to keep people from reverting back to old software that's not supported anymore. It usually happens a week or 2 after the new software comes out.

Oh well, that just *** big time!! Part of apple's monopoly philosophy, it's in the roots. That's just cunning.
