Do you think we will get a break on early replacement of the bat?
I'd reckon that'll be one of the discussions going on in Apple. But if they admit there is a widespread problem then the lawsuits are sure to follow so

Dec 5, 2011 4:47 AM in response to Hotphilby xninjagrrl,Best offer I got from Apple was $30 to have someone come to my house and exchange the battery. Not even worth considering until they fix the battery drain, then, they probably wont even offer this to me any longer.
Also, turning off icloud does not help , my battery still drains 15-20% while I sleep at night. Turning off wifi does help a little. I am sick of charging my phone 4+ times a day just to keep it charged. My battery is probably more like a 2 year old battery than a 9 month old one...Apple should let us afflicted customers go to AT&T or Verizon, whatever, and get free battery swaps once they fix this battery drain. Any lawyers hanging out in here?

Dec 5, 2011 5:27 AM in response to xninjagrrlby Davidiblackman,Update. Yesterday I had to charge 4 times. Typical usage was 2.5 tom3.0 hours of use, meaning battery drain stillmmoremthan 30 percent per hour. My only hope is to delete all, reset again as a new phone w/o all the apps. Nsynch only about 3 apps I use the most such as twitter and FB and news apps. See what happens. I am still convinced there are apps that are draining the battery in the new IOS 5. It would be nice if there was a database web site, where ppl could list all their apps, and then check with others to see what they have. Then you could see if there's commonality between ppl having these problems.
ONCE AGAIN THOUGH, WHERE IS APPLE? I hope they say something today (Monday) so we know they have not abbandoned us

Dec 5, 2011 12:27 PM in response to Davidiblackmanby knuckles63090,I did this. I did a complete and total reset! Then unlocked the phone with NO apps. there was not a change. But what I have noticed is the WIFI seems to stay on even in standby. I wonder if anyone else's is doing this?

Dec 5, 2011 12:30 PM in response to knuckles63090by Limegrntaln,There is a downgrade out there now to go back to iOS 5.0. Try at your own risk. Check the tech blogs. Boy genius report, 9to5Mac, tipb, gizmodo, Engadget, tech crunch. Etc

Dec 5, 2011 12:52 PM in response to Limegrntalnby knuckles63090,I have went back to 4.3 and then the battery was great! Then 5.0 and 5.0.1 and the battery performance went bad again. this was with NO apps loaded. One thing I have noticed was the fact that my WIFI was not shutting down when the phone went to standy. I am wondering if anyone else had the same?

Dec 5, 2011 6:14 PM in response to art_in_motionby curtisfromdeep gap,After upgrading my phone to 5.0.1 i've had several issues, battery life has been reduced significantly. Reception is horrible now, i live in a remote area and prior to upgrading I was able to talk on the phone from any room in my house, now, unless I'm upstairs in the back of the house, people have trouble hearing me, and vice versa. Also my web browser tends to not be able to load half the time and my mail has started having trouble loading emails. Many messages come in with a message saying "this message not loaded"
HELP, can i revert back to the old operating system?
-
Dec 5, 2011 7:37 PM in response to curtisfromdeep gapby knuckles63090,you can but it will be deleted from here. I have the 3GS and I cant say that I have noticed an issue with the reception, my be model specific. The only issue I have noticed is the WIFI does not seem to shut down when the phone goes into standby. When I hit the home button and while the phone is locked the WIFI is already on. before the update it was not on. it would take anywhere from 4-6 seconds for it to show up. So I wonder if that has the issues with the battery drain?

Dec 6, 2011 7:20 AM in response to art_in_motionby kreeh27,I am noticing the exact same issues. With no programs running, I am typically losing 15-20% of battery life overnight since the upgrade to 5.0.1. Additionally, I previously had no issues with reception; however, since the upgrade I have had multiple calls dropped mid conversation - despite being stationary. I was already disappointed in the battery life afforded by the iPhone, now it's almost unbearable. My phone is only 2 months old, and I can barely get one days charge out of it with minimal to no use.

Dec 6, 2011 7:25 AM in response to kreeh27by Limegrntaln,Kreeh, if you are expecting to find a phone with better battery life than the iPhone. You may as well go back to a flip phone. Because when the iPhone software is perfect, nothing beats it. I work with a bunch of guys that have HTC EVOs and they are 100% to dead in 4 hours.

Dec 6, 2011 7:35 AM in response to Limegrntalnby kreeh27,There's no question that the iPhone does (or rather did) provide the best battery life available - and I was impressed; prior to the upgrade. However, since the upgrade my friends with HTCs and Blackberrys are getting much battery life... and that in itself should draw rapid attention from support staff.

Dec 6, 2011 10:11 AM in response to art_in_motionby davidch,For anyone new to the thread be sure to go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)
5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases. It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple. Good Luck!
