Dec 13, 2011 12:26 PM in response to jasonfromcitrus heightsby tednovak,Thanks you very much. That gives me a bit of reassurance. However, it should be noted that this has been the only notice of it being addressed or even being acknowledged as an issue. Those communications should be coming from Apple - not necessarily citing a specific date of release, but at least a recognition of a problem and an on-going effort to address it. That's Communications 101.

Dec 13, 2011 2:58 PM in response to jasonfromcitrus heightsby Tikatoo,Curious Jason because nothing I have read indicates that 5.1 beta addresses the battery drainage issues whatsoever. Apple was very quick to acknowledge the battery problem ... Hence, the rush to push 5.0.1. They have to know the problem is now worse for hundreds of customers. I simply can't understand the dead silence.

AllThingsD claimed (over a month ago now) to have received a statement from Apple that acknowledged there were still some battery issues - http://allthingsd.com/20111111/apple-we-continue-to-investigate-iphone-battery-i ssues/
Since then, Apple have hung customers out to dry.

Dec 14, 2011 4:56 AM in response to hearryby EdiMC,UPDATE: well, after doing this (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16970221#16970221) again, I finally got the expected result!
Charged overnight, unpluged the iPhone at 9AM.
Now it's 12:48AM and it only spent an AMAZING 4%! It's a whole new behaviour with the same settings I had (and consumed about 30% in 3 hours, in sleep mode).
So NOW, I'm starting to see a shining light at the end of the dark tunnel! Hope it stays like this! Fingers crossed!
Nevertheless, we shouldn't have to worry with these matters (or at least, SO MUCH), after paying a little fortune for a so called high-end smartphone...
Waiting for the next iOS upgrade.

Dec 14, 2011 6:16 AM in response to EdiMCby NanaCA,Now that I've waded through all this discussion, I am so very grateful for this post and link to the instructing post. I sure hope it works!
Curious to me: I upgraded to 5.0.1 and the battery worked fine for a full week, before two days ago it suddenly started to drain. What happened? I haven't read any post who seemed to have this experience.

Dec 14, 2011 6:45 AM in response to Davepj10by NanaCA,>>It is 100% clear. With iOS 5.0 on my iphone 4 battery was perfect. With iOS 5.0.1 on my iphone 4 battery is crap. Period.<<
Yes, said so clearly. I'm not a 'techie'. I am an ordinary woman who loved her phone. Until this battery issue started...approx. 1 week AFTER I installed iOS 5.0.1. Until then, all was heaven. I'm praying for a miracle healing.

Dec 14, 2011 9:54 AM in response to art_in_motionby andré luis,Here, in Brazil, have a same problem with battery life. I update to 5.0.1 and now, have 50% battery life, 2:39 minutes in use and 10h52min away. Have some problems here!!!!
-
Dec 14, 2011 4:18 PM in response to andré luisby EdiMC,NanaCA - that is why I think this issue is software related. Something to do with settings that get, somehow, "corrupted" with the use of the phone and start the draining battery issue.
if it wasn't, data restore's wouldn't make a change...but they do!

Not to put a dampener on, but the changelog of the beta release to developers contains no communication/acknowledgement of a battery issue (or of it being resolved). Apple haven't directly publicly acknowledged an issue, let alone a fix. All there's been is one website claiming to have had contact from Apple that acknowledged there was still an issue for a small number of users.

Dec 14, 2011 5:17 PM in response to Hotphilby TEfromboron,You are correct. There has been no direct acknowledgement from Apple on the battery problem. Really bad form Apple.

Dec 14, 2011 7:08 PM in response to EdiMCby NanaCA,I also followed the instructions given in
(https://discussions.apple.com/message/16970221#16970221)
Thank you! Thank you!
First results show promise. 12 hours after starting with a 100% charge, and I'm down to 88%. This is with limited use, btw, and fyi: with a lot of the bells and whistles turned off, which doesn't bother me, because I don't use them. Still, if one gets an iPhone, one should be able to use all features.
I noticed when reseting everything that a few of the screens-- the main Location Services screen-- was a bit different than when I had first set everything after the update to iOS 5.0.1. I'm guessing this was part of my problem. My standard operating procedure is to not try to figure out weird software glitches.
Hoping for the best!

Dec 14, 2011 7:28 PM in response to art_in_motionby vzafrani,Yes I agree with you. This is a general issue. What Apple can do to resolve this problem?? Not updating?

Dec 14, 2011 8:18 PM in response to art_in_motionby Limegrntaln,Not sure where you guys are looking. But Apple has been quoted as acknowledging a battery problem on many weblogs.

Dec 14, 2011 8:30 PM in response to Limegrntalnby TEfromboron,I think the point is, I as a customer who paid $700 for an iPhone would like to see an official apple.com acknowledgment of the problem. Not just an unverifiable weblog rumor.
