Feb 3, 2012 2:46 PM in response to art_in_motionby jrez,I'm wanting to know if anyone has heard of anything concerning the supposed update to ios(5.2 or 5.1.2 ) or whatever the **** apple wants to call it. This battery life thing is pathetic. I'm lucky if I get 8 hrs of my phone being on. 4 hrs of usage is the norm. I have tried all the voodoo resets and all and nothing has worked. I'm at 1 hr 48 min of usage with 54% battery left. This phone is the biggest pile of $h!t out there. If I could get a refund I would. This will be the last iPhone I purchase. Back to android for me. At least I could 24 hrs of use from that thing. And the fact that apple sits on their hands and doesnt release any news just adds to the situation. I'm sure this will be deleted but apple customer service has done nothing to resolve the problem.

Feb 3, 2012 8:10 PM in response to jrezby susanaz,Same here, I have a new iPhone 4S Version 5.0.1 (9A406) and did all sort of resets, battery cycles, I turned OFF almost everything and nothing works. 4 hours of usage for me to, it is exasperating. BACK TO Blackberry ASAP. I paid 800$ (bought it unlocked) for this piece of $...
If you find ANY solution please post it.

Feb 6, 2012 12:27 PM in response to art_in_motionby Andrei Morar,I followed davidch's series of instructions and now i get 2 days of stand-by time under normal usage ( 7-8 hours) or up to 4 days of battery life with low usage (2-5 hours) on my Iphone 4 running 5.0.1.
For example now I have 7% battery, 3 days and 6 hours standby time and 6h 31 minutes of usage. Wifi is always on and most of the time connected to my home router. Bluetooth is also on as the phone automatically connects to my car bluetooth car kit as I enter the car. I use my phone with 3g off and brightness set to about 25%.
I strongly recommend following davidch's instructions. Doing so helped me gain between 25 and 50% of battery standby time and usage.

Feb 6, 2012 12:36 PM in response to Andrei Morarby bradlmullins007,Whenever you can get that kind of usage out of your iPhone while using it for Internet radio plugged into your car stereo using 3G and playing games at the same time let us "heavy" users know. I'm sure
I could get that kind of life too if I were using it mostly on wi-fi and not playing games.

Feb 7, 2012 2:11 AM in response to davidchby John Kilpatrick, davidch wrote:
aplCla55ic... you can restore as "new" or restore from "backup (iTunes or iCloud)". restore as new sets phone back to default after which you will need to re-setup and sync all data from some source on your pc or mac like the first time. this includes mail, address book, calendar, music, etc. anything that you created on the phone that has not been re-synced back to the relative pc or mac application at some point will be lost and need to be re added on the phone. Note, that pictures taken on the phone are very frequently not sync back.
If you go through "setup as new" is there any way to keep your SMS stuff?

Feb 7, 2012 2:16 AM in response to bradlmullins007by Andrei Morar,No need to use that condescending tone. I was merely providing some info regarding my improved battery time after using davidch's instructions . Some people might find it useful.

Feb 9, 2012 10:12 AM in response to art_in_motionby Snarfette08,I was directed by At&t to go to my nearest store and aquire an iPhone 3gs or the HTC Inspire due to the fact they were pushing the inventory of this particular model out and I would not be penalized for another phone number that had been hacked and receive the promo price without adding lines to my account, well the Inspire wasn't very inspiring and I called Bestbuy and the iPhone 3gs had plenty in stock, mind you The iPhone 3gs had the new ios5 pre-installed so I had no need to update, needless to say random rebooting for 3 hours and battery life was awful!!! I was able to acquire an Apple ticket and they just wanted to play the switcheroo game with me...so I said this is obviously and issue with all models including iPads and so forth...The Supervisor said "Yes", out loud, so basically your going to trade this sub standard item for another substandard item? He then replies with basically yes, lmao...than proceeds to tell me what options I have to return my phone...nevermind the inconvenience...Shame on Apple, the bite they took out of their logo is all you get!

Feb 9, 2012 5:54 PM in response to art_in_motionby Tikatoo,I haven't written in a while because the cure by DavidCH fixed my battery problems. Of course, I have almost everything turned off, but am able to get 2 days battery life with about 5 hours actual usage (messaging, phone calls, Hanging with Friends).
However, now I am back to being an unhappy camper!! We were fortunate enough to purchase a new car that has Bluetooth which gives us hands free talking, and of course the ability to listen to the hundreds of songs I have on my iPhone 4S. Love these features of my car, but WOW, it drains the battery life something terrible. Left the house this am with 98% battery life, spent 30 minutes in the car each way, several phone calls during those trips, and listened to music the whole time. Lots of messaging during the day. Two games of Hanging with Friends. Came home and my battery life is at 33%.
Completely unacceptable!

Feb 12, 2012 9:43 PM in response to aplCla55icby xyber,This is my first time to have an iPhone (4s). At first, I was so excited. But when I start using for couple of days I was so irratated that BATTERY LIFE drains so fast. It doesnt even last for 16 hours. I read blogs, discussion and I followed some of the advise to save battery life but still....no good.
Now, I am very disappointed and regret why I switch to apple iphone...I should have stick to andriod phone. Battery life last 24 hrs or more.
Apple should do something about this iPhone 4s battery issue...

Feb 14, 2012 5:50 PM in response to xyberby eshaffran,Xyber,
I too have been dealing with severe battery drain issues. The fine folks at the Genius Bar even gave me a new iPhone 4 (still have the 4 and not the 4S). After a full night chage (100%) and litterally turning off any and all applications I turned on, within 12 hours, I'm under 20% battery life. I came across this article on the web:
The jist is: It appears that iOS 5's GM release introduced a bug that causes the Setting Time Zone function to keep the location tracking circuitry running constantly, draining battery power considerably. Switching it off may mean that your iPhone will no longer set its own time zone when you travel, but that's a small price to pay for having your iPhone last more than 12 hours on a full charge...We have tested this method on 4 different iPhone 4S handsets, including an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS. All have reported drastically improved battery life after switching "Setting Time Zone" off.
So ... go to Setting, Location Services, System Services (located at the bottom), Setting Time Zone ... turn to OFF.
I'm going to give it a whirl, got nothing to lose/gain but ... battery life.
