Nov 12, 2011 9:47 AM in response to art_in_motionby rhyslewis13,Updated to 5.0.1 yesterday on my 32GB 4S. I had battery issues as soon as I purchased the phone on 5.0, but by killing the time-update setting in location services, I had reasonable battery life. After updating to 5.0.1 yesterday, battery life is noticeably rubbish, even when not using the phone. I'm going to give apple until next weekend otherwise they can have it back. Some of us have lives to live, rather than messing around with what can only be described as beta software.

Nov 12, 2011 10:07 AM in response to art_in_motionby joshfromclermont,I have been happy with the iPhone for a while, but I have tosay that the ios 5 update with the fix does not work. Since the update, I amhaving massive issues with my microcell, which I have never had before, and thebattery life really stinks. I am really concerned now that the battery willeventually be damaged due to the rapid discharge and constant recharge. Sinceupdating to the fix, I drop 7 % in 17 min of internet use using the wifi. Inaddition, my phone is still draining while on standby. I have followed allsuggestions, ie, turning off time zone etc, and still no go. I have conducted afull restore, no go. I have, then deleted everything and treated my phone as anew phone install and still no go…. I am really frustrated with the ios 5. Iwish that I would not have converted my mobileme account to icloud and stayedwith ios 4.

Nov 12, 2011 10:07 AM in response to art_in_motionby MiPhone,
By Stoga: I have followed a couple of suggestion listed in the string and I'm seeing better, not great, but better results. The first thing I did was to hard reset (i.e. complete power down) wait a minute or two then power back on. Second, completely charge the device, then let it discharge down to 5% or less, then fully charge again.
Hope this helps!
I also followed this path and have seen marked improvement even with all support services active. I haven't done a complete recharge yet as I'm waiting to do a full from empty. Prior to the reset I disabled all support services. The reset completely rebuilt my primary email account (wiped and redownloaded all emails). Seems like the issue may be related to allocation and the phone is being a fussy baby after just being fed and needs a burp.

Nov 12, 2011 10:24 AM in response to art_in_motionby toddindc,yes-seeing the same thing too. I was actually better off before the upgrade.

Nov 12, 2011 10:27 AM in response to toddindcby StuartH,Same here. No problems before the upgrade, now my brand new 4S goes from 79% to 44% just walking round the shops.
I expect and usually get better from Apple.

Nov 12, 2011 10:57 AM in response to art_in_motionby Dylan's Apple ID,No change in battery power loss. I lose about 1% every time the screen turns on and from over 8 hours of periodic e-mail checking and iMessaging I see the battery drop from 100% to about 30%. After 10-12 hours, it's straight to the charger.
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1, AT&T (all suggested services disabled in an attempt to make improvements through limiting use)

Nov 12, 2011 10:59 AM in response to art_in_motionby james_83,Upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 yesterday and things are looking rather grim! I am also loosing battery life at a significant rate... Very disappointing.

Nov 12, 2011 11:04 AM in response to art_in_motionby toddfrombasking ridge,I have an iPhone 4 and had no battery issues with 5.0. After upgrading to 5.0.1 battery life is draining at an alarming rate. I charged the phone to full last night just before bed, and it was completely drained in the morning. I charged it again this morning and within 3 hours of little to no usage, it was below 40% battery left. I called Apple and all they would say is that it's a "very known issue" and they are still "ironing out the bugs". They made an appointment for me at the Apple Store, though I don't have much faith that this will help. I guess I just have to wait for 5.0.2. This is pretty ridiculous, especially when the release notes for 5.0.1 say that it addresses a battery issue. Which issue was that? The one where your battery lasts more than 6 hours?

Nov 12, 2011 11:05 AM in response to Dylan's Apple IDby John Sterner,Brand new iphone 4s with ios5 and what was to me good battery life in typical use (certainly better than the HTC droid handset I switched from). I did the OTA update to 5.0.1 yesterday morning and saw upwards of 60% loss of battery life in a matter of a few hours. I attempted to revert to the earlier ios version via a restore, but it would not restore without me agreeing to the update, so I it appears I cannot go back to the earlier version.
In the meantime, I plugged the phone into the wall charger, turned it completely off and let it charge the rest of the day. Yesterday evening I turned it back on for regular use and am leaving it unplugged for use until it shuts down then will recharge via wall charger with it shut off again and see if the battery response is any better at that point.
Good grief!

Nov 12, 2011 11:15 AM in response to art_in_motionby wenceCSW,I'm experiencing the same problem too! Since updating to 5.0.1 at 100% my battery has been draining at an exponential rate!

Nov 12, 2011 11:21 AM in response to wenceCSWby colster,Would be interesting to know how many people who have issues upgraded with the small installer or the airwaves and how many plugged into computer and downloaded the via computer.
Perhaps the issue could be there.
