Q: 5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

    I can't speak for anyone else, but my battery issue seems have been fixed by first applying the 5.0.1 update, and then doing a complete backup/restore.  This not only fixed my battery problems, it also seems to have fixed my mysterious 3G data drain.

    Also, there is no "battery problem". It's a software problem. Soon it may even become a "feature" common to all phones...

    I have had the iphone 3g, iphone 4 and iphone 4s. The 4s by far has had the worst battery life. On all 3 modles I have always had push notification on as well as 2 exchange accounts on. With the 4s on standby only receiving push notificication and never turning the screen on I lose 3 plus % an hour. This did not occur on the 3g or the 4. This weekend I turned push notification off and set fetch to manual and was able to make it almost 8 hours and only lost 3%. With this I still noticed more usage than the amount of time I used the phone. Even with that I think there is a bug with push notifications in the iOS 5 platform.

    ARrrrghhhhhhh!!!  I had stellar battery life on my 4S. Only had to charge every other day!!

     

    Tonight,I stupidly installled 5.0.1.  I have now lost 1% every two minutes, with same settings and doing nothing on the phone.

     

    Am really upset and not sure what to do after reading all the posts about unsuccessful restores.

     

    IN addition, the same thing seems to be happening on my iPad 2 that I updated as well.

    My 4 had almost unbelievable battery life on iOS 4.x.  On iOS 5, it wasn't as good but still liveable.

    On iOS 5.0.1, it's the worst it has ever been. Even standby is using 2-3 times more battery than before.

     

    I'm going to try a backup/restore tomorrow night.

    I wish Apple would do the right thing and PULL iOS 5.0.1 until fixed.

     

    Everyone who is experiencing battery issues should go and return their iPhones until resolved.

    PROBLEM  FIXED...My iPhone 4 was dramatically reduced in its battery life from 100% to Zero in 5 hours, plus it got exceptionally hot. Apple replaced the battery last Sunday, with no change, I was advised by the Apple Genius Bar, that I also had a Processor actively operating whilst the phone was not in use, using up the battery frantically.

    I downloaded 5.0.1 earlier, thinking this would repair tyhe bug, but alas no change.

    I was advised by Apple to do a complete Restore..BUT.. 'Not a' Restore to Backup, of which I did last night, and Presto its now 100% to 98% in 4 hours, better than ever.

    This article clearly states that it is NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM. A well thought out experiment clearly shows that it is a SOFTWARE BUG.

    I had pretty decent battery life on my 4S with 5.0 (use semi-regularly all day while at work and come home with 40-50% battery) but after installing 5.0.1 I came home with ~20% battery and is now at about 10% after about another hour.  I also have started having 3G issues where it won't connect to 3G after the update (says it is connected but everything I try to do times out).  A reset generally solves the 3G issue.  I wish I had heeded the warnings about 5.0.1 making battery life worse.

    Jurrrr, I wish I had had the sense to read these forums before doing the update  My phone wasn't broken, it didn't need fixing.  Now, it is, and does :(

    Once again, I updated my AT&T iPhone 4 to 5.0.1 and with moderate use, including e-mail, Facebook, push notifications and Wifi, and it took 2 full days to reach 50%. If it was a hardware issue, it would be an issue with everyone. Has to be software. I'm looking forward to getting almost 4 days out of my battery. I've never had another non-Apple phone get more than 2 days (i.e. Samsung, Nokia and Sony), so I have no problem. I did do a hard reset/restore when I updated to 5.0.1, simply because that's what I always do. I suggest everyone try it -- several times if need be. 5.0.1 almost doubled my battery life.

    Do you mean, a shut down and restart? Or did you wipe the iPhone and re-install everything?

    This is very enthusiastic. Wired magazine? Yesterday I saw something like that on the "big" thread i.e. 3 days usage. It turns out the "moderate usage" was 30 mins of calls per day, a little browsing, a little mail and tons of standby, with no push/pull mail and always closing background apps before leaving the phone on standby. It's a 6hrs 3G internet device or 8hrs 3G call device. So someone who has no standby drain can slice it up on so many days... like 2 days at 3-4hrs, or 4 days at 1-2hrs per day, even 8 days of 45 mins use per day with some 0.5% standby drain or something - or use airplane mode to kill 3G and have a 40hrs mp3 player... but it's still 6hrs 3G internet or 8hrs 3G calls. I don't understand the need to make a contest out of this - when people don't qualify their usage with real numbers it just creates unreasonable expectations. The point is whether the problem can be solved. No offense.
