I own iphone and ipad now, ordering ATV today. Can I bring my iphone or ipad and apple tv to a relatives home and easily set it up to watch content from the ios 5 device? Or does ATV require to always be set up as part of a network?
You can take it to a friends house and stream content from the iPhone/iPad, however both devices would need to be on your friends network and any content that you'd purchased from the iTunes Store may need a connection to the internet for authorisation.
OK, so sounds like I will most likely be using ATV only in my own home, and the ipad will continue to be my method to show photos, etc to relatives that do not have a home network.
Is apple tv portable?
