Battery life - iPhone 4S - iOS 5.0.1

I used to be able to get 39 hours of stand-by time with my iPhone 4S on iOS 5. However, after upgrading the software this morning to iOS 5.0.1, i'm struggling to get 24 hours and the usage time is much lower. It drains quite rapidly. This kind of situation is quite sad to be honest. I mean, Apple seem to be pushing the patience of even the most loyal users. After paying a hefty sum of money for a product, people expect to enjoy the experience, not get a load of hassle in return. I'm surprised that customers are being put through such grief by one of the best companies in the world. Apple has some of the greatest minds in the tech world. Come on guys, sort this out please.

Not sure whether this has been tried. I just found out about it. Double click the home button on the iPhone. This will then bring up the apps that are running in the background. Touch and hold the apps that are not necessary. A re '-' will appear on that app. When you touch that, the app will close completely. Hopefully, this will help improve battery life.
