iBooks very slow

Hi all,

on my ipad2 I loaded about 2000 epub and pdf books. When I start up iBooks

(on ios5, earlier versions of ios did not have this problem) it takes forever to

get all books loaded (after 2 hours there are still about 50% of the books

in book-shelf view, displaying the black bar) and available.

Any ideas why !?

These are all non-drm pubs.

Start with the basic troubleshooting steps. Start with the third step here - quit iBooks and restart.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

To quit iBooks - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Another "recommended step" when an app misbehaves is to delete the app and then reinstall it. If you delete the app you will lose the books from the iPad as well, but if they are in your iTunes library, you should be able to sync the content back to the iPad. You can also backup the iPad before you delete the app as a safeguard.

You can also try restoring your iPad to factory settings and then restore from a backup. The only issue with this is that so often the backup itself is where the problem lies so restoring from the backup is not always the answer. I'm not saying that it will NOT work, but I'm saying there is no guarantee that it WILL work if you restore from the backup.

However, if you decide to restore your device, by all means restore from the backup and try it that way first!
