need advice importing MPEG-2, missing codec?

Hello,

I am having trouble viewing / importing some footage into FCP 6.0. When I import it I can only hear audio and can't see footage. When I try to render the footage it says I have a "missing codec". I am working on a MacBook 10.6.8. I had a DOP take my footage and it is in MPEG-2 form. Other information: PCM, Timecode Original format: HD bitrate 35,725 dimensions 1920 x 1080

when I ask the DOP about it or the possibility of converting it he said:

"I used XDCAM Transfer to convert it from a BPAV to .mov. They're already converted. The BPAVs were transcoded through XDCAM transfer, and the only thing XDCAM transfer does is turn them into movs using MPEG2, so even if I now compress them into something else, the original codec is still there so it won't make a difference if your computer won't play MPEG2."

I also can't see my footage in Quicktime or MPEG Streamclip, even though I bought MPEG -2 Playback.

Any advice?

thanks!

Jesse
