Music app not working

The music app on my iPhone 4 isn't working. I'm using software version 5.0.

-- Music App shows "no music" even though the indicator in iTunes on my MacBook Air says that there are a lot of songs in there. All of my playlist names do show up in the App but there aren't any songs in them.

-- The music app shuts down when I tap Artists, Albums, Podcasts or Genre. It does not shut down when I tap any other buttons but no songs display.

This problem started after reseting my settings a while ago to improve battery life after updating to ios5. The battery life did get better but the Music app doesn't work.

Normally I'd just delete the App and reinstall it but you can't delete this one.

I have an iPad with all of the same sync settings and the music app works fine in there so I doubt the problem is iTunes but I'm sort of at a loss.

Anyone have a clue what to do?

Thanks!
