no iphone apps appear after itunes reinstall

After installing itunes I am not able to see none of my applications appear on the applications tab of itunes. When I click the applications tab for the iphone device, the sync box is unchecked. Checking it says all applications on the iphone will be replaced with applications from the library, but no applications appear in the library. Checking the box may cause a prompt to appear saying apps exist on the iphone not in the library, and give me a chance to import from the iphone, or they may just get wiped off the iphone. What do I do?
