Ihave the OS X LION and I accidentally deleted X11 allowed me to openGIMP. I tried to download it from Apple, but when I go to install itI get the message "I can not install it because there is alreadya newer version."
Probablythe system sees it, but I deleted from recycle bin. How do I restoreit? Thanks for those who want to help me. I have too many jobs storedin the GIMP.

Restore from your Time Machine backup from just before you deleted the program. That's one option.

Another option is to use Pacifist to extract it from the InstallESD disk image inside the Lion installer. Requires that you kept a copy. If not, then the only solution is to boot with CMD+R and waste bandwidth, time, and electricity restoring Lion.
Thanks for the reply. But unfortunately I do not have an external hard drive for Time Machine.
If I reinstall the system from booting with CMD-R, how long will it use?
3.4GB to redownload. Don't know how fast your internet is. Next time try keeping a copy in another folder somewhere and think about backing up your data if it is that important. Hard drives can crash at any time and you risk loosing everything.

Do you have a copy of the Lion Install App? If not, re-d/l it (In App Store, option-click Purchased Tab) and then in the Lion Install App (in your Applications folder after d/l), control (right) click and "Show Package Contents) and in it you'll find the X11 Intall package: X11User.pkg

No need for Pacifict. X11 is an installer in the InstallESD
As I indicated in the first post I have already downloaded X11user.pkg, but when I go to installI am told that there is already a newer version and will not let me go. Probably, although it has been deleted, the system sees it anyway.
How do I go to retrieve it?
Download Lion and install again.

X11 has not been available as a separate download from Apple for years. If you downloaded it from Apple, then it is for a much older version of Mac OS X — probably Panther or Jaguar — and that is why you get the newer version message.
You should always have a backup, or better, several backups. If you don't have one, rectifying that should be your top computer-related priority.
