Q: iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now  and  have had much better  sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

Hey the new iPad just came out, along with the new iOS 5.1 update and it says that it "Addresses bugs affecting battery life" and I hope it works this time, because it didn't work for me with the reset settings.

Well I'll update it tomorrow (its available OTA) (its 11 pm

In switzerland now) and I'll let you know if it works for me

    Regards

For me the update to 5.1 seems to have improved the battery however it's too early to conclude anything.

But spent 3% in 25 minutes surfing on wifi seems quite good

Updated to 5.1 and my battery seemed to have gotten better at first but I'm not so sure now. I charged it last night to 100% after letting it fully die (meaning phone shut off). Turned on airplane mode and when I woke up it had about 8 hrs standby still at 100%. Turned 3G and wifi on and it stood at 100% for another 2 hrs before going to 99%. So all in all it was on standby for 9 hrs with 30 mins of usage.

But now I am having some overheating issues and my battery has started to drain really really fast. Right now my stats are:

    Standby: 16 hrs 39 mins

    Usage: 3 hrs 49 mins

Wifi is on and 3G is on.

    Attaax,

Did you do a restore or just upgrade the software? Also, did you do a settings reset?

    Hello David,

Months ago, I tried your procedure to improve battery life on my iPhone and it worked very well.  Now that 5.1 is out, would appreciate your thoughts.  From the last experience, I'm somewhat reluctant to upgrade without confirming that battery life isn't going to be an issue again.

Do you have any thoughts on whether battery life is an issue with 5.1?

    Regards

    Sanjay

My battery life went down noticeably after I updated to IOS 5.1 also.

    Here what worked for me:

After reading other users suggestions in this Thread and others, I decided to do the easiest first.

    I went into >Settings >General >Reset >ResetNetwork Settings

I had to reconnect my Wifi but other than that it was simple and so far battery life has improved.

If that had not work I would have tried the Reset All Setting next as mention earlier in this Thread.

As standard practice I always let my battery drain down once to about 10% each month and fully recharge.

Iforumuser, when you ResetNetworkSettngs, did you have to do anything other than resetting your WIFI passwords, or was that it?  I'm going to do this too, but want to make sure there's nothing that I have to do other than enter my passwords again.

    Dave4282,

Thats all I did.  I had to reconnect to WiFi at home and at work.  I supposed it erased all my other saved wifi connections also (Hospital, Starbucks, etc.)so I'm sure I'll have to redo this as needed.

I haven't had to redo anything else so far but I have only used the phone since the reset I did last night.
