Hi 'sflomenb', Sorry for not being concise, by usage I meant 'turned on', so to put it correctly it was in standby as I was asleep, i.e. I wasn't not using my phone. 8pm it was 100% charged, went to bed at 10pm (didn't use my phone at all.) and woke up at 7.30am to find my battery was flat. So that is about 9 or so hours of 'standby'. If I use my phone I would be lucky to get 5 to 6 hours out of it tops, so I know excatly what you are going through.
Like 'ram130', turning features on and off just to get battery life is absolutely ridiculous. I am in business I can't spend time worrying about a phone so it doesn't go flat! My iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 would go for about 2-3 full days of regular usage, 5 emails accounts fetching and send email, browsing the web, sending SMS, voice calls, voice messages, location services on, notification services on (and AB!) - you name it, I was doing it. As additional proof, my wife's iPhone 4 has iOS 5.0.1, which she got the same time as my iPhone 4, runs for about 4-5 days before getting to 20% of remaining battery life. She doesn't use it much anymore becuase she brought an iPad, but that iPhone 4, like mine, is like chalk and cheese compared to my iPhone 4S.
It shouldn't come down to the end user having to worry about their phone, like I never had to worry about my iPhone 4. I never had to worry about checking the battery level before I left the office, but now I have to with my 4S and I have it plugged in all the time to make sure I don't get caught with a flat battery halfway though my day when I get called out of the office.
Cheers everyone and good luck, and if you decide to stick with your 4S then I hope the next iOS patch improves things.
