Hi davidch,
I was saddened when i checked the thread and my inquiry wasnt answered but i understand that a lot of other folks also have questions.
I'll summarize my questions which i think will offer relevant insights to all when answered:
1. In Standby or using the phone: does leaving more apps in the multitasking bar burn more battery than leaving none open?
Or no difference?
Even if there's no wi-fi and the phone's locked but should iteven matter considering that the phone is on sleep mode?
it really depends on the specific app. most gneral apps (non network type) do not affect battery even while remaining in the bar. they typically go into a sleep mode when not being used. however, network dependent apps like skype, pandora, browser, mail etc can continue a certain amount of activity and accordingly affect the battery drain whether in standby or using the phone.
2. Also does the number of unclosed apps, enabled wifi, affect the battery drain even on standby? Or it should not?
again, it really depends on the app. certain network type apps may continue to comminicate depending on. if wifi is on, those apps will use it first. if not they will go to the 3G network. typcially, wifi uses less power than 3G.
3. Is locking the home screen same as pushing the sleep/wakebutton where in the phone would go into sleep?
not exactly. the phone can be locked and still be awake (i.e. waiting for you to unlock). however, if it is not unlocked after some time period of time, it does go into a reduced power or sleep type mode. in additon to screen blank, i think the system reduces power to the UI wait for input processes, etc. network (i.e wfi and 3g) are still available to network type apps mentioned above, push notifications, etc, but i think in a more by request reduced power function (similar to the wake on sleep function of macs).
hope that helps and sorry for missing you before...
