Safari crashes on iPad 1 with ios 5.0.1

When I originally updated to iOS 5, Safari would crash on me 4-6 times a day. I hoped that the update to iOS 5.0.1 would solve the problem. It hasn't. It tried your site and crashed as well.

To say that I am terribly disappointed that the update did me no gooD performance wise, would be an understatement. But I shouldn't complain because now I can "pinch" to the home screen! Whoppe!!

I don't believe that there are any changes in Safari in iOS 5.0.1 versus 5.0.

Mine appears to open more quickly as well as all other apps even though I don't see that as something upgrade fixed.

Mine has been crashing since 5.0 lots I haven't upgraded to 5.0.1 but found it funny that when I when to that site it crashed as well..... All we can do is cell calm and chive on! We still have great games (Contre Jour, HD pinball, Peggle W.E.L.D.E.R, #sworcey, some game with ****** of birds...you guys get it I'm being positive but I'm mad too let just chill

Same problem with my iPad1 safari crashes several times with ios5. All other apps seem to run without crashing.

I had the same problem and was ready to throw It in the trash. Last night I erased my iPad and set it up as new iPad instead of restoring. I didn't turn on iCloud until after I deleted my iCloud backup and turned off contact syncing with it. Since then it hasn't crashed and it has had about 4 hours of use. 5.0.1 didn't have an effect on it. Just happy I got my iPad back!

I have same problem with Safari crashing when navigating on http://techcrunch.com/ since iOS 5.0.1 on my iPad 1. Restarting the iPad didn't solve as it usually does for these issues.

Safari crashes on my first gen iPad almost every time I use it. Never happened before iOS 5. It also crashed when I tried your link. This needs to be fixed, it's making use on the iPad really difficult.

Safari crashes frequently on my first gen iPad, too. It's a 16gb 3G.

Ha ha, mine crashes on the apple site too.

FYI: iCab does it too so it seems to be a webkit problem.... ?

I am experiencing the very same issue. iOS 5 was always a little less stable than 4 on my iPad (1), but since I've upgraded to 5.0.1 Safari crashes constantly on sites I used to visit frequently without a problem, such as NYTimes.com. Please patch!

I have tried

- soft restart (holding buttons down til the Apple icon appears)

- quitting all suspended apps

- resetting network settings

To no avail. Seems to be a memory management problem.

I installed opera since safari is a non starter on iPad 1 with iOS 5.01. Also using the wife's kindle fire...

I have 2 ipad 1's and have upgraded both to 5.01. Unfortunately, the safari browser on both crashes frequntly enough i finally did a search to see if others have the same issue. Yahoo, nfl.com, slate...tech sites, and apps that link to the web such as pulse will all randomly crash. I will bet its ios5 since i had virually zero crashes prior.

Sigh...and i have tried clearing cash, messing with settings, rebotting. Still crashes on both.
