Installing iLife '08 from Tiger Install disk onto Lion?

One of my iMacs (Intel) originally came with Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger), and iLife '08 pre-installed. Since then, I have upgraded to Snow Leopard, and then to Lion. The problem I have is that when the upgrade to Snow Leopard was done I did a clean installation - the result was that I lost the use of iLife '08. It didn't really bother me because it isn't our primary computer anymore.

Tonight I tried to install iPhoto and iMovie from the Original Mac OSX Install Disc 2, but when I click on "Installing Mac OS X and Applications" I get an error message that says "You can't open the application installing Mac OS X and Applications because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. I have also tried right-clicking and selecting "Show Package Contents" but I haven't had any luck.

Is there any work around for this? I'd rather not go into the App Store and pay for iLife and iMovie '11 considering I already have them as part of our newest iMac.

Unfortunately, there is no way around it; the older versions were PPC - up to and including Snow Leopard, they were supported by something called Rosetta. Apple has decided to drop support for the older architecture.

You can buy a new retail disk (not through the app store) which will include iDVD and iWeb (no longer included in the OS). I bought it because it was worth it to me to get a possibility to install and reinstall because I use iDVD a lot. The retail iLife 11 is available at the Apple store, online resellers, or ebay.

Thanks. That makes sense. I knew Rosetta wasn't supported any longer but didn't realize iLife 08 was Built for PPC only and relied on Rosetta to work on Intel Machines. :-)
