What did you click to get this error message?
Sorry, I do not know that. It is a long time between, though after weeks it popped up this. I can not find a new unknown startup object. At a newstart command it does not matter whether I suppress to launch opened ocjects.

Hmm. the first thing that comes to mind is the UNIX file compresing utility called "tar". Sort of like WInZip but for Unix. Did you try to run something on a tar file.
Karl, tar is a compression method/format, like rar, zip, etc.
Your file is just a compressed file.
Used in old days in Windows environment. Still used in Unix environment.
Should be unpacked in OSX by double clicking. Perhaps if you change the .tar extension in .tar.gz.
I doubt if rosetta is necessary, but I am not sure. Try to unpack in an older OSX.
There still are windows apps, that unpack tar (power archiver, 7-zip, etc).
There are also methods to unpack in mac, when the double click does not work:

Why would tar be the culprit?
I just opened several tar balls with Achive Utility and there's no issue in Lion. I don't create them because I prefer other methods of compresion, but you can create too, if you like.
The OP may be using a 3rd party PowerPC App as the default for tar files. If he posts his PowerPC App's we'll know.
Exactly Tony, all just a bunch of bunch of wild-*** guesses until the OP posts back.
LexSchellings,
I *do not* search for an application to uncompress a .tar file,
I am confrontated with a certain message popping up in unknown circumstances, but often.
The content of the message is seen above.
______
Tony, there a many files for PowerPC; I will try to clean the application folder. As I see they all are outdated with Lion.
What is with Universal?
~k.
Universal is supported in Lion (it's both Intel and PowerPC)
I have several old applications deleted from the boot disk (forgot utilitys on the first, second and third pass through 😉) and unselect all apps from the startobjects but totalfinder.
Immediately with the launch the message is inserted three times, then at least for 20minutes not any more.
System information looks now as shown:
you're joking, right? the original post asked what was tar and how he can close it.
Yes, Russa, we are joking along my question from 12.11.2011 14:58 with the Screenshot from the Messages.
In the meantime since my last post two further alerts of this kind occurred without working with the machine, open apps: system profiler, safari, preview, finder.

Were they also .tar alerts?
If they were, you might try installing Stuffit and see if it handles opening whatever tarball it's stumbling over.
Also pls post your system.log from around the time of the event. Launch Console in your Utility folder and choose system.log from the Sidebar.
