Siri over bluetooth and car sterio

Overall, Siri works very well through my bluetooth car stereo. I have an OEM RCD-510 in a 2011 VW Golf. The only issue I ever run into is I get on a higway that causes a lot of tire noise, but other than that it works really good... much better than I was expecting.

As far as battery life 12-16 hours would be considered fairly good if that involves any moderate amount of data usage (i.e. phone, email, browsing, appss, etc).

I use Siri over BT every day, but you're right it isn't nearly as accurate as just talking straight into the phone. Perhaps a future update will help in this area.

As for your battery, did you install the 5.0.1 update? This addresses battery issues for some users (but not all, apparently). Settings > General > Software Update.

Also, battery life will depend on what you're doing with it during those 12-16 hours so some more detail there may help in comparing to what others are getting... I use it for 5-7 hours a day and it's in standby for ~14-16 before it's dead. It really depends on the usage and what you're doing with it tho...

I have to say Siri works just fine over bluetooth in my 2011 Kia Optima. No problems at all. The only gripe I have is that I have to hold the button on the phone to activate it, I can't activate it from the steering wheel controls.

As for battery life and 5.0.1, it's probably worth trying. It may not solve all of the battery life related problems for all users, but it has helped many.

I honestly believe, at this point that the battery life problem has more to do with either a rogue app or something wonky brought forward from an old iPhone backup.

Have you tried setting up your phone as a NEW device and not restoring from a backup to see if it improves? If it does, there's probably something wonky with an app or old data brought forward if you upgraded.

I'm not sure what version of Bluetooth is in the system. I'll have to check and see if I can find out. I do know that there is an external noise canceling mic in the headliner on the drivers side. Came from the factory that way. I can see how a mic in the head unit itself might be less effective.

I do know that Apple has aknowledged that 5.0.1. did not fix all the battery life issues and they are still investigating. My money is still on a process that's being allowed to run rampant and bring things down. I didn't have much of a problem with my 4S when I got it, though it was obvious it was burning battery faster. not the drastic problem some people reported and of course I have to take into account that standby time on the 4S is only 200 hours compared to 300 for the 4. I had no problems on my 4 after updating to 5.0. My wife is using the 4 now an has not had any problem either. I honestly can't say whther the marginal improvement I've seen in my 4S is due to 5.0.1, battery conditioning from a couple weeks of use, or me not playing with it so heavily since it's not 'my new toy' any more.

I have a problem to pair my 4s with RCD510. May anyone help?

System can see the name of phone, but once I try to connect, it says mobile phone is not compatible

I have been successfully using my iPhone 4S for several months paired over Bluetooth connected to my RCD-510 in my 2011 Golf TDI. It connects consistently when I get in the car and mostly use it phone and Siri.

Did you do something special to make them paired?

I heard US specs VW RCD-510 system has bluethoot with HFP (hands free profile). But Europian RCD-510 works with rSAP (remote sim accses profile). May be thats why you are able to do that without any problem.

I have couple of questions:

Are you able to read sms while driving?

Do you have phone book in your car touchcreen?

I would appricieted if you explain little bit broader.

We dont have apple official dealer in my country.

I can not access SMS through RCD-510 display. However, can read me my unread messages over the Bluetooth and allow me to respond, etc

The phone book shows up on the MFI, but does not show up on the RCD-510 display.

Pairing was simple. I added a new phone through the MFI and entered the default code on the iPhone which was "0 0 0 0". Now the iPhone automatically connects when I start the car. I can also stream music over Bluetooth and physically connect the phone over the supplied. Music can be controlled with steering wheel controls and the RCD-510 display.
