When I put in my Apple ID it says it can't verify my computer or device?

I want to download Lion on my Macbook Air. When I put in my Apple ID to get into the App Store it says it can't verify my device or computer. My account seems okay and up to date and I've had this computer for awhile. What can I do?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Is your credit card good? Is your Apple ID typed in correctly? (i.e. nothing wrongly capitolized, etc.) Ditto with your password? All correct? And is this the Apple ID and password you use for the iTunes store (the one connected to a credit card)?

I'm not trying to be annoying with these questions, but they are the first things that pop to mind. Sometimes we have different names and accounts--including shared names and accounts, and we get things wrong--a wrong password, or how we spelled the i.d. or such.
