Wifi issues with iOS 5.0.1

IPad 2 keeps dropping wifi signal after iOS 5.0.1 update. NOT a problem with the wifi, as my iPhone 4 also updated to 5.0.1 and it keeps the wifi just fine - that is if the battery lasted long enough to test it - the battery on the iPhone 4 DOES deplete twice as fast AFTER the update is morning!!

All, I spoke with a Tier 1 tech at Apple that finally admitted this is a known issue. Do your troubleshooting, be ready with the facts, and call in if you are experiencing this issue. Again, I had atleast 10 other IPs on my network working fine. I reset Network Settings on ipad, have 3 other Apple products on Wifi, only the iPad. They are sending me a new one. Do your home work and if still intermittent call in. Rare to have a corp employee admit to a known issue. Of course tier 2 denied it was known issue, but was sure quick about sending me a new one.

Hi Guys,

I'm in the same boat (updated iphone 4 to iOS 5.0.1 and started having WiFi connectivity issues in my house). I finally got fed up and scheduled a Genius Bar appointment at the local Apple Store (tip: download the apple store app and schedule the appoint through it and save time). Meanwhile i changed my access points' channel to 11, 2 weeks ago, from the default which was "optimal". Now I am able to stay on WiFi reliably at home.

I note though that this week I went into a different apple store to find out what my options were for a repair/replacement. I pulled out my phone and the greeter got to see the infamous spinning wheel while the phone looked for WiFi connections that never ends. His comment was, "that shouldn't happen."

I also note that for some reason, my phone is now able to find wifi connections in my house by switching to airplane mode for maybe 1 minute, then switching out. I've not connected my iphone to itunes in over 1 month. In front of the apple store greeter, I tried the airplane mode trick and it worked. Until I switched my access points to channel 11, nothing I did would get the phone to see the WiFi, short of rebooting.

Best,

jeff

Hi !

Have the same prob on both iPad 1 and iPhone 4S. I think it's a bug in my backup because my girlfriend, father and brother have all an iPhone 4 and they didn't have this problem. Only me but I don't have this problem on my MacBook Air, PS Vita, etc... Only iOS.

My solution: I've created a wifi connection with my iMac. So use you computer to make a hotspot wifi (like iPhone's shared network !) and it worked for me.

Other solution, disable all Location in settings, forget your network and ad it again. It worked for me...

I posted this info in another thread but will repost here. I had wifi disconnects, can't reconnect and lookups after updating to iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4. Last weekend I replaced my router to support multiple gaming consoles (Xbox and 2 ps3's), gigabit Ethernet and quality of service. Since replacing the old linksys wrt54g with a negear wnr3500L I've had NO disconnects, can't find wifi or lookups. It's been more than a week. Typically I'd have at least 1 issue requiring a reboot per day.

I have updated my son's ipad 1 from ios 3.2 to 5.01. I have since then lost access to internet. It seems that the ipad is connecting to the router (Apple airport extreme) but unable to get an ip address and the wifi icon doesn't appear on the toolbar. I also created a network using my MacBook, the ipad connects to this network but still no ip assigned and no wifi signal icon appearing. So obviously this is not due to my router but to something in ios 5.01! All Macbooks, iMacs and iPhones are properly working on our home network. This is very frustrating to me and my son, I wish I have never upgraded!!!!
