Got this wonderful message in the middle of a project. Checked around the forums for help and the only one I've seen so far is to create a new account on the mac and login and open FCP X ......

I, too, am getting this "vague" error message. If it is a corrupt, event how would one identify which even is corrupt? I took a screenshot when I got this message about 15 times during a One-to-One appointment. I lost all the work we had done on the project. Then I made a Genius Bar appointment but of course, couldn't replicate the issue. Wondering if it some kind of communication problem during autosave since I lost the changes.

I also have plenty of storage but am using external HDD for all projects and events. One solution was to rename my events and projects folders with the word "OLD" preceeding the folder names so FCPX won't read from the folders. Then I was to reimport all my Events, folder by folder. Now I'm copying my Projects to a NEW FCX projects folder hoping it will link, but NO!

So, now I'm back to square one - going back to my original Events/Projects folders and then maybe MOVING all projects (with events) to another drive.

Anyone else find another solution?

Could be anything from a corrupt project or event to incorrect permissions. It's hard to tell.

Were these projects / events created under a version prior to the one you currently have installed? I remember when 10.0.1 came out it wanted to update all of your projects and events, so if these files were installed on another drive or for some reason didn't get updated, it might cause issues like this.

Other things to try:

  • Make sure your disk has at least 20% free space.
  • Ensure you are saving to a drive that is formatted with the Mac OS Extended (HFS+) file system.
  • Repair permissions.
  • Make sure you are logged into an admin user account.
  • If the drive is not your boot disk, ctrl-click it and go to Get Info. Under Sharing and Permissions, select Ignore ownership on this drive.
  • Trash preferences with Preference Manager.
