Does Apple TV work with iPod Classic?

Does Apple TV work with iPod Classic?

I was told by an Apple Store person on the phone that Apple TV will allow me to get my iPOd to work on the Tv I purchased the next day. Then I come to this website and it does not mention iPod Classic. DOes iPod Classic work with Apple TV? From my understanding Apple TV allows access to a person iTunes library and actually uses iTunes rather than the ipod. So I am not sure why it would not work with an iPod classic. Please advise.

Any relationship between an iPod and the Apple TV is done through apps, this applies to sharing, use as a remote control etc etc, so only devices running iOS will work with the Apple TV.

Which Apple Store was this and do you remember the name of the person who told you this.

So what does this mean? You never stated weather or not IPOD Classic will work with Apple TV. It insinuates that Classic doesn't run with iOS, but doesn't state it. Why can't Steve's question have a yes or no answer? Do you work for Apple? Apple has a terrible reputation for not fulfilling implied functions. If it requires a lot of headache to make it work with Classic, then call it out clearly on the box.

To anyone who knows;

Is the answer "yes"......"no".......or "not without installing ?? application found ???"

Since an iPod Classic does not run iOS, nor is it capable of running iOS, the answer is "no."

There is no "implied function" between an ATV and an iPod Classic.

The answer is no for the iPod Classic, and any iPods I would imagine apart from the iOS based Touch.

An iPod would need wifi and iOS to work with AppleTV.

WELL.......................in the FIVE months that it took me to get this answer I have since purchased Apple TV. While I have opened it, I have not yet tried to install it. The sales person that I spoke with at the Apple Store told me that it does work with iPod Classic. I have to use the remote that comes with the Apple TV and can not operate with my iPod, but I will get functionality....according to them. So which is it?

Look, Steve, only iPods that run iOS (which an iPod Classic does not) can interact with an Apple TV. The sales person obviously misunderstood what kind of iPod you have or they would not have told you that.

An iPod Classic does not interact in any way with an Apple TV.

No, I clearly stated that I have an iPod Classic. I think technically my ipod does not interact with the tv...the remote that comes with it does. From what I understand is that my TV interacts with my computer and I use the remote ( that comes with the tv) to access the Apple Tv. Am I and my sales person wrong about that? All I need is for my TV to get my itunes library on it. They told me that this does happen without an iPod Touch or iPhone.

Steve, there is no "technically" about it. An iPod Classic does not interact with an Apple TV. Period. However the remote that came with the Apple TV will, of course, control the ATV (iPod Classics have no remotes, as far as I know).

The Apple TV comes with a manual, take a look at it, it will have most if not all the information you need to use the Apple TV.

I know all that now. 5 months ago I did not know and came here for advise. I got none. Thens someone says because I have an ipod classic I can not have Apple TV. I can...so what if I have to use the controller that comes with it instead of my ipod.....all I wanted tyo know is could I have Apple TV if I have an ipod classic. The answer is yes.

have to say, and i think i'm not the only one here, i'm not totally clear on what you are trying to achieve.

of course you can own an iPod Classic and an Apple TV, but then i can own an iPod Classic and a food blender - they still won't talk to each other.

i suggest you go to an apple store and ask a member of staff for clarity.

I wanted Apple TV to access my iTunes Library on my tv. I have an iPod Classic can I do this? It was that simple.

I am fine I do not need help anymore, I bought Apple TV months ago, but have not yet installed it on my tv. So I am fine, I have the installation guide and access to an Apple Store.

I got it to work. Got a little annoyed with the product working when a screen saver kicked in, but other than that It works. Like someone stated the Apple TV does not interact with the iPod but interacts with iTunes. I am fine with that, all I wanted to know is if the product would work. Thanks.
