Firmware upgrade to 7.6 causes audio jumps

I've just updated my two Airport express boxes to firmware 7.6.

Now every few seconds there is a jump or glitch playing audio that sounds like a buffer overflowing causing data loss.

I've tried unplugging & restarting them both without success. One is hardwired, the other linked by wireless and i'm playing from iTunes 10.5.0.142.

Has anyone else found this?

Just a guess, but it would explain the behavior you're describing... After I upgraded to 7.6 I noticed that the router was repeatedly dropping and re-establishing connections. You can look at the router log by double clicking on your express in the airport utility and selcting Advanced > Logs and Statistics. If you see a regular pattern of "Disassociated with station..." and "Associated with station..." messages the same thing is happening to you.

The only way I found to correct this was to downgrade back to 7.5.2. You can do this by highlighting your express in the airport utility and select Basestation > Upload Firmware from the menu bar (upper left side of your screen). You'll then be prompted for the version of firmware to upload. Select 7.5.2.

Hope this helps,

Dave

I don't actually have the guest network option turned on.

I do think I've solved the problem, though. Since the update to 7.6 my 2,4GHz is suddenly set to channel 1. This used to be set to channel #10 because of two neighbours that are also using channel #1. After manually setting it back to #10 everything seems to be working fine again.

I'll keep you updated after I've had more time to test it.

I have the same issues with the audio on 7.6.1 but I cannot downgrade on two of my Airport Express. It claims older versions are not compatible?! I can only choose 7.6 or 7.6.1. On one of my other Airport Express I can downgrade to a huge selection of versions and 7.5.2 solved the sound issue so I'm very keen to download on the other two too..

Please help. Do I need to sell them and buy an old version?!

I am having the same problem. I can not use Airpot Utility to back date to version 7.5.1. I only provides 7.6 or 7.6.1. I could "select other" but I am unable to simply download the update by itself. I use the airplay feature in my job. This is really important I get a fix. I cant have the audio cutting in and out all the time.
