These apps cannot be accepted on this computer?!??!

Hi, I just got a new Macbook Air and it started off with a minor issue with the Mac App Store. The Mac App Store notified me about an update for iPhoto. So I wanted to install this update but all I got was this error: "You have updates available for other accounts. To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."

I did not buy these apps, they are pre-installed on the new Macbook Air. Then I deleted iPhoto, maybe I was able to install the app again from the App Store. Big mistake! The button in the App Store gives me 'Accept' and after that I got the same error.

Alright, then a more agressive approach. Deleted the disk and run Lion recovery. Macbook Air freshly installed, started up the Mac App Store, under purchased I have the iLife suite with a big Accept button! Seems good to me! But then, no installation, still got the 'Accept' button next to iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband. But now I'm getting this error after clicking Accept:

'These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update.'

Okay, open up Software Update but there aren't any updates! So all I have now is a brand new Macbook Air without the iLife apps, iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband.

I contacted iTunes support via the support website. Got an e-mail back, long story short: contact technical support in your country. Aarrggh! 😕

So I contacted technical support by telephone in the Netherlands. Was on the phone for 45 minutes and still no solution! The support guy was not able to correct this AppleID/App Store malfunction. He said that I have to contact iTunes/App Store support... yes, this is getting some sort of loop.

What is wrong and why can't I install these apps from the App Store?

Apple: please help me out this misery! This is some kind of error at the Mac App Store. 😠

My issue is almost identical to yours. I bought a macbook air off of a friend who reformatted the hard drive before selling it to me. Now when I try to accept the updates from iLife, it gives me the same error message you receive. Hopefully it's a problem with the App store. I'll be checking back to see if anyone has ome up with a solution.

There are tons of similar problems on the discussion communities.

There is one way to fix this problem, Apple has to give you voucher codes for the iLife applications. This is a sort of workaround but it will resolve the problem but Apple isn't that willing to give you those codes. I'm still waiting for a reply from the iTunes support.

The other solution is that a "Senior Advisor" activates the apps to your AppleID. That will be my next request to an engineer.

Yes just keep calling apple and explain to them your problem:

That you cannot download iPhoto eventually someone will send you some redeem codes that will hopefully solve your problem

But mainly just keep calling apple and do not let them give you the run around

I had to call four times before they sent me the redeem codes

If you need any more info just let me know

I suggest that you all stop dealing with lower level Apple Care agents and immediately ask politely and firmly to have your call escalated to a Customer Relations agent. They are authorized to do most anything to satisfy a customer. Apple has had this issue with preinstalled iLife apps for almost a full year and they have not solved it. Explain to the agent that you need the redemption codes immediately in order to enjoy the use of your Mac, for which you paid good money and deserve to be able to use it fully and properly.

The answer was authorization codes. It took three phone calls, several emails to Apple Tech support (after I purchased the $160 applecare plan) to get them. Note, I had to call back after four days, the first Senior Advisor simply disappeared and refused to respond to emails or phone calls. The next Senior advisor spent the weekend looking for the first advisor, then scheduled a phone call to tell me he would begin looking at the issue. When I asked he specficially discounted the authorization codes:

"I don't know if issuing a redeem code for iPhoto is an appropriate resolution for your issue. Since, I don't have the ability to issue any redeem codes for the Mac App Store, I am still waiting to hear back from Sean, the previous agent you were working with, regarding any status he has about your issue."

Three days after that...here are your codes. Note a restart is necessary to properly get the iLife apps to update, now through the App Store.

Also, this is the second issue where I have lost contact with a Senior Advisor and had to restart the process. Standard procedure?

This is why I purchase my software on a physical DVD whenever possible.

Howdy,

Here's how I solved this problem:

  1. Launch App Store
  2. Click the "Purchases" tab (the price-tag icon at the top of the App Store window)
  3. Find iMovie in the list
  4. Click its "INSTALL" button

It downloaded without complaint, and I'm running iMovie successfully right now. This despite the fact that navigating to iMovie through App Store search field displayed an "ACCEPT" button rather than an "INSTALL" one, and resulted in the same error for me as described here.

Much faster for me than begging anyone for download codes. Hope this helps someone else.

I did not uninstall it, because I did not have it on this computer to begin with. I upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard a few months ago, swapping out my hard drive entirely in the process, and iMovie didn't tag along. I haven't needed to use it until last weekend, and thus ran into the issue with the ACCEPT button described on this thread.

So, yes, good question. Obviously I'm not going to recommend tossing out your software entirely just to see if the method I described works for you. I suppose you could try something safer, like temporarily moving or renaming the application first, but that's up to you. Best of luck...
