5.0.1 email image cache problems

I have two different email accounts that I check on my iPhone 4 with the 5.0.1 update. One is a Google account. The other is a private account. I receive images from a remote security system at a warehouse I monitor when motion is triggered. The device sends 3 images to both accounts. When I open my email on my Mac laptop or desktop, I can see the current images just fine, but whenI view them on my iPhone, it sends what appears to be an old cached version of the image on both accounts. If I compare the emails on the computer, timestamps, image numbers, etc., it is obvious that my desktop and laptop are working correctly, but the iPhone email accounts are not displaying the images correctly. When I view on the iPhone with the new update, I get a reating old image no matter how many times the alarm is triggered. It is like the image was an old cache version from days ago set on a loop that it cannot get past. I experienced NO problems prior to the update. Any suggestions on how to clear the cache on iPhone email if there is such a thing?

I spoke with 2 Apple Techs today. One was an expert. Both operate on a closed network and have NO internet access or access to any of the forums on Apple's site. I know what you are thinking. I am going to put in another call to see if I can elevate the problem as persistent and maybe one of their engineers will take a look at it.


Here are two postings I came across that highlight the same issue we are having, but show that it is happening on two different types of security camera systems.


Oddly enough, my Mac laptop, desktop and iPhone are all displaying the images the same way. Even though it shows them as 3 images within the body of the message, if you look at the header, it indicates only ONE attachment, even though there are really three.


My workaround is to use the iMailG app for Google Mail and forward my DVR to include an additional email address on alerts, so that way when my mail goes off and I can see something triggered the security system, I can use the Google App and actually see the 3 images correctly.


If I find anything else out in the meantime, I will post an update.

I have a Q-See system. After speaking with Apple Support and Q-See, what I have found is that Apple has pretty much pushed HTML 5 as their standard on their multiple OS platforms, which includes any browser running on Apple's toys (iPad's iPhones, Laptops, etc.). iOS5 changed the "filters" (or metatag data trasnslation) on Apple Mail, so until your vendor (Q-See in my case) updates their metadata to become HTML 5 compliant, you are going to be out of luck. Q-See did inform me today that the issue has been elevated to their engineers and they are aware of what the problem is and are currently working on it. I was receiving updates via email throughout the day from their tech support which was pretty nice to know they were taking this seriously and wanted to make sure it was addressed quickly. If you have a Q-See system, give them a few days (or maybe a bit longer) to get an update available and check their website periodically. If they email an update has been issued, I will post it on this board.

I think the HTML 5 explanation is garbage. Thought this was just happening on my Q-See emails but it also happens with my "MyFax" service which previews a gif image of the first page of the attached pdf. The gif is always the cached image of a previous MyFax. If you want to see the current image, you must power off/power on to see the new image which will be forever cached until the next power cycle. I have noticed when receiving a Q-See email and I quickly view it before all three images have loaded, you will see the correct image until the last image has loaded. Then all three are the old cached image.

I did receive a response and they did elevate it to their top engineers within 3 days. Bottom line...they are blaming Apple and said Apple needs to fix it. Here is the reply to my post when I submitted my problem to Q-See.

The factory is aware of this issue.
Apple made changes to the email filtering in iOS5 and they need to create a work around to the changes.

I have the QT-428 system. Recently, Apple Inc. did some updates to their iPhone (iOS 5) and Mac Mail programs. As a result, images sent from QT-428 camera's no longer display correctly in Mac Mail. Instead of 3 attachments, it displays as 1 attachment with 3 individual images. However, the images are ALL exactly the same. There are no time lapsed images. If you view in other programs such as Gmail in a web browser, the images come across as 3 individual attachments. I have spent several hours on the phone with Apple Tech support and have elevated the issue to their engineers, however, they believe the problem MIGHT be an issue relating to the Meta Data in the emails. I wanted to make your organization aware of this as there is actually considerable discussions on Apple's web boards about the issue and only Q-See camera systems appear to be affected. Other users with different camera systems are not experiencing any problems. Thanks for your time.

Hi Its Ali Subahni......! I have iphone 3gs recently i have updated IOS to 5.0.1, and just after updating i m unabale to use my iphone, because it says


"Only compatible sim cards fromsupported carrier may be used to activate iphone. Please insert the sim card that come with iphone or visit a supported carier store to receive a replacement sim card"


Can some one help me.....How this issue can be resolved........!

Okay guys, the only work around that I have that doesn't involve shutting down the phone is to kill the email application.


You do this by going to the home screen. Then double tap the home button to pull up the background apps. Then touch-hold the background app. They should start to wiggle with a RED minus sign on it. Tap the minus sign to close the mail app.


Then reopen the mail app and the new email. Pretty lame I know, but quicker than shutting down the phone and powering it back up.

Last I heard from the Q-See Engineers was back in November. They contend the problem is a result of Apples changes to the Mail program (which it definitely was) and that it is Apples responsibility to fix the problem. If it was actually a bug in the program I would agree with the engineer at Q-See, however, I think this was a fairly major update under the surface from what the user actually gets to see and that the Engineers at Q-See should work with Apple to resolve the issue. I would hazard a guess that this is a classic case of the blame game or the 3 top Engineers that write/fix the code for the Q-See system don't have a clue on how to fix the problem. I still like the cameras, but if I were to just buy them, I would take them back to the store and advise others to do the same. Other options are available for the same money that do work on Apple's Mail program.


I have since switched to Gmail's App for their mail and have found it works great. You just need to have a Google account to take advantage of it.
