I gladly admit i drank the Kool Aid and love Apple, but Hate the way they fail to support their products and release them as almost pre-beta programs and products at times.  For $25.00 a year i should not have to use a "work around" and control click anything...the damned sync process should simply work...my iTunes has crashed so often with Music Match in the iCloud that i'm signing it up for collision insurance.  Even while writing this i was greeted with yet another Pop Up telling me iTunes quit unexpectedly and i have a relatively small music collection, so i can only imagine the frustration for those with larger libraries to back up...

I've had all the same problems.  Made a genius bar appt and they basically said to uninstall and re-install in a very specific order which didn't help. Tried all the suggestions I could find. Contacted Apple support and they suggested workarounds and I said I'm not spending any more time trying to get their product to work, so either fix it or give me my money back.  No refund.  I am beyond furious now.

I have the same issue with the genius function.  As soon as I turn it on, iTunes crashes also.  I assume they are related, but not sure how. Genius used to run fine.  Not sure what version of iTunes when this feature failed also.

    Hi,

It worked for a while and he synced more music than vefore, but he still crashed at a certain point. I tried it from another mac aswell, one with snow leo and it made some thousand more but also died. At the end I was successful with itunes under windows... This is really, really disapointing.

After reading through these comments, I turned on "iCloud Status" and found that I had over 1,000 songs in "Waiting" status.  However, I then sorted by the "iCloud Download" column and found 2 of my "Waiting" songs had a dotted cloud icon next to them.

    Waiting.png

These songs were very large.  I deleted them from my library and I no longer have any crashes.  Apple really should fix this issue, but at the very least we should be able to exclude specific songs from being matched.

I just subscribed to iTunes match. What a waste of money, I'm getting the same errors as reported here. It starts to upload my local content that isn't already matched in the cloud and then crashes. I sent an email to Apple support for help, all they did was link me to this thread. That's the worst customer service I've ever known. I want my money back!

I just wanted to follow up that my match is now working.  I don't have any instructions to provide, however.  I didn't change anything about my library.  I was experiencing the same crashes everyone else was and sending reports to Apple.  This was the case since this past summer when it was only available to people in the dev program.

I looked into the status of songs being uploaded.  I had about 1,000 in "waiting" status which I wasn't willing to delete. So I turned off iTunes match in December or so.  A couple weeks ago Match started its matching process on its own and this time it sucessfully completed.  Since I didn't do anything, I'm left to assume Apple worked out whatever was the issue on their end.

Sorry that I can't provide help and I still don't know what was causing the crashes, but Apple did get my issues sorted out... after a few months.

Are you Windows 7 or Mac OSX? I have two OS X (Both Lion) and no issues with Match (or Genius)..however, my Windows 7 machine quits whenever I try to do a Match (and Genius is running, even if i shut her down)  Deleting ALL songs is only option to get it to work. Tonights experience, only download "Matched" songs. So, 1500 songs download, out of 2000....I updated Match???  CRASH. I thought it might have to have something with a corrupt song, but since these are matches the Genius and Match should work flawless. I called Apple, they told me it is Microsofts fault...iTunes is the only software crashing...

BTW: For some who have issues with the 'waiting' --> highlight all songs, convert to ACC, and delete originals. You'll be mint after that.

This is a real shame. Apple prides itself on the 'everything just works' functionality and this would be fantastic if it worked properly.

Only people with lots of music would use this and it seems the service struggles to deal with lots of music.

I have too many 'waiting' tracks to delete as suggested by other users, so I guess I have to wait for an itunes update. Lots of them are extremely high profile tracks/albums too - no excuse of obscurity. This service isn't ready and needs an update to justify any sort of fee.

Ok, I had the same problem as everyone else, and kept getting the crash loop. I have now managed to fix the problem and to be perfectly honest the problem was with my catologue - although i would have thought that Apple could have managed to conjure a workaround.

I have around 10,000 songs in my catologue, few have been bought from itunes, most have been added to my pc from older hard drives which have had cd's added to them or from other sources.

Some of those songs simply never got played, I either simply didn't like them or they were so old or album fillerish that I never listened to them and I never realised that in fact they were corrupted. They would show as being 2:40 long but in fact would only play for 5 seconds or so before skipping to the next tune. For the limited time itunes would stay open before it crashed I managed to test which songs it showed as the dotted line cloud symbol and all of them had problems.

I had no hesitation deleting the never listened to songs and since doing so, and removing any other songs with *error* on the cloud symbol my itunes and imatch have been working properly - in fact ike greased lightning.

So, working on the principle of GIGO, delete your corrupt songs and see if your problem is fixed. Yes I know that Apple should have introduced a workaround, but they haven't yet, so if this works then be happy ;P

p.s. If these songs mean so much to you then feel free to make a backup of them first to see if you can fix them somehow, but for me i won't be crying over something I never listened to.

Glad to hear that you were able to iron things out!  I had the same issue with about 30 songs...some came from custom-made CD's, others were imported from now forgotten sources.  None were standard fare.  Through the process of elimination...removing the most obvious candidates from iTunes...I was finally able to get everything to sync up with iTunes Match.

It still isn't without its faults.  There are numerous (common) albums where some songs were matched while others had to be uploaded.  Now and then the artwork will be wrong which I've fixed manually but that shouldn't have to happen.  Some artwork will be missing from a device like my iPhone or Apple TV when it plays back from iTunes Match as well while other times it shows up fine.  So there are still glitches.  However overall it continues to improve.

Given the millions of tracks available from iTunes and hundreds of other sources it may be too much to expect iTunes Match to ever be perfect.  I can live without some of the more obscure files as well...plus I still have them and can always try to add them again later.

    Enjoy!

I've had a bunch of crashing since buying iTunes Match 2 nights ago.  I don't have that many songs yet since I'm still ripping my cds - about 3000 or so.  It kept crashing & I deleted 2 error songs (one was a midi file) and of the waiting files, I deleted a few long dj setsand 3 albums of matched but obscure music.  I left stuff that was well known (Beatles, Beastie Boys) and things are humming along.  It's odd that some 50 tracks of 'unknown' artist were uploaded without any issues before the crashing began.

I also turned off my antivirus temporarily (using Win 7).

I have to add myself on the list of those with the same exact problems described above.  I am sure that the workaround to remove any tracks that show to be problematic is going to be the best one.  Am working on that as I write this.

My comment is not to add any more to this solution as I think it's pretty clear what the problem is, but why?  As mentioned by the user above who was even using this in beta and had the same issues and turned off match.  If that was a problem then, why would they go and release it? Especially with no mention of a link to this discussion or even better a FAQ that includes this exact problem and the simple workaround???  You would think that with all the really smart people at Apple, they would have managed to get the software to at least ignore any tunes that had problems on the first attempt, instead of allowing the program to crash, something that is in no way good for the PC or MAC as it causes all kinds of potential issues with the registry and having done it so many times, could easily corrupt other programs running at the time as it is clear that you are supposed to be able to use iTunes and continue working as normal as this pathetic example of how Apple is going to now move to operate like all the rest of the shoddy developers who release products with known issues just to meet some schedule that is surely related to the budget.   That is what MOST of the new games released are like now.  There is always a forthcoming HUGE patch released a month or so after release that addresses problems that were made known the day of release.  The developers all take a vacation, let the forums fill up with bug reports and they track them down when they return.  INSTEAD of the way things used to be...  Pay for or at least use motivated testers from the public realm to test the software so that all the bugs can be addressed BEFORE it's released.  IMO, this is a MAJOR bug  and there is no excuse for releasing knowing that iTunes would be crashing around the world billions of times an hour.

Surely they will not issue any form of return credit, even in itunes credit, that money is needed to pay for the development costs that were incurred, even though they are are the wealthiest company in the world AT THIS TIME.

Maybe they should stick to hardware and outsource the entire iTunes family of products to ensure that the user will get the same quality that they expect when they turn on their iPhone 5's for the 1st time.  They didn't crash every 5 minutes, thank God.  This should be an embarrasment to Apple and resolved ASAP, but it won't happen, if they knew about it 3 months ago, they will continue this laxidasical approach to it and fix it later in a "Scheduled" patch a month or two from now.

What a joke and what a surprise to have spent $25 on this and rendered my entire itunes, AppleTV and even the Airplay devices are useless, unless I want to take a long walk to the PC to restart iTunes for a few minutes again.  Can't watch a movie until I sit down and filter through some 8,000 songs and copy them to another location and hope that I can finally sit down after a hard week of work and watch that movie I started before I foolishly bought into this fiasco in the middle of.  Those dev. guys all look like they got egg on their clown painted faces now, that's the only way I can finish this process without losing it.

You say, Turn off iTunes Match?  I can't, not sure of the rest of you, but as it is syncing, you can't turn it off and the **** thing starts before I can open the menu at startup, if that is what has actually greyed out the "turn off..." option, who knows until this is fixed or rather stabilized.
