address book corrupted on iCloud

I just lost all my data stored in address book.

I have a backup locally but whenever I load it, icloud erases it.

This is a big problem. I do not trust icloud.

How can I extract my address book entries from icloud back to my local drive?

The address book backup shows all entries held in the icloud account. When I import while offline, the entries stay put. as soon as I go online, icloud erases them.

Please help.

I solved my problem by selecting all the entries in icloud and dragging them back to my on-my-mac. I then cancelled icloud leaving just the local entries. I then backed these up.

I got duplicates when I first started icloud and got into trouble trying to get rid of them.

icloud does things in the background and moves things around so that when I attempt to choose one item, another item gets selected. When I choose and erase quickly, the wrong stuff disappeared.
