Q: iTunes 10.5.1 password irritation

nope, after a day. The password bug came back..

well, it seems like itunes is forgetting that we have associated our machines with downloads. Today, I opened itunes prefs, store, then turned books on. Then I went to itunes store prefs, and made sure my machine was associated:

I am finding the latest version of ITunes very annoying.  No matter if I de-authorise and re authorise mymachine it still keeps asking me for a password to "Sign in to use this computer for automatic downloads".  How can you fix this annoying bug??

I can remember previous versions of ITunes having the same problem.  It looks like Apple developers have learnt nothing new and re use old code as opposed to fixing this very obvious bug once and for all.  It’s really annoying that if you don’t enter a password or click cancel it will keep popping up looking for a password over ALL other programs.  I would expect that in Windows 95.

Does Apple not understand the simple option of allowing saved passwords? It would be standard on a PC butforeign to Apple.  I love my IPod touch and use it every day of the week but this annoying popup from Apple is a headache that plagues my laptop every day of the week!!!

I noticed a new box popping up asking to save password. Will have to try it on the next time..

also, I wonder if the original poster might update the title to reflect what is happening. I notice others creating new threads. I am hoping Apple (who occasionally reads these boards) might become aware of it a bit more if all the posts are in one place...

I have the same problem - asking me twice for my password.  You can click the box marked "cancel", but it still happens again, and of course every time Ipen iTunes.  It's driving me mad - among other things!

I am also experiencing this problem (Win 7 x64, iTunes 10.5.1).

I found that if you go to the store part of itunes and logout it will stop prompting untill you login to the store again.

How do you report bugs to Apple?

I Am Also Having The Same Problem With A New Lenovo Thinkpad Win 7 Professional X64 System and iTunes 10.5.1, SURE HOPE THAT APPLE WILL COME UP WITH A FIX AND VERY SOON!!

side note to my above post,  just checked my desktop computer at home running Windows XP Professional SP3 and iTunes 10.5.1 and i launched itunes several time on that system and it never asked for my password so now i am wondering if this is an Windows 7 X64 And iTunes 10.5.1 issue only???

I am seeing this on two different MBP's now...

So sick of this bug. The worst thing is - you uncheck the box for auto downloads in preferences, and then when you fire itunes up the next time it's conveniently forgotten that you unchecked the box.

Hey apple - I'll press cancel for the next 40 years if I have to, I'm not signing in despite you trying to force me.

Submitted a bug report to them. Let's see if they allow logic to win rather than smashing their customers in the face with this major oversight.

anyone have any luck with yesterday's itunes update fixing this?

I didn't even know there was an update release, will try out now...

Just installed now, and the double pop-up happened again...?????
