    I am hving the same problem with multiple password prompts for every action on iTunes.  Has anyone found a solution?

    I've had the prob for a couple weeks now. I've tried every possible fix here and no go. I tried searching for stuff in the reg.. No go... I Googled it, no go. BUT, this problem has surfaced several times over the past few years in other versions too. Even with them, no fix listed.


    It takes at least 2 tries to sign in now. When the *&#^% is Apple going to fix this permanently...?
    It's frustrating as ****. Some of you say it's only once every reboot. For me it's every time I start Itunes.
    This problem never happened before. It just showed up. I'm think it's not just software but something on their end. I also don't have any place to check or unchecked the check mark. It's gone totally. Ugh!
    PS: It's the latest version of Itunes.. on a W7 Ultimate 64 bit system...

    I decided to try something I haven't seen on any of the threads about this bug. With no applications running, I went into Keychain Access and deleted the entry for iTunes Store password. I then restarted my MacBook and launched iTunes. It prompted me for password twice - once for automatic downloads, and a 2nd time to "check now" for downloads. The 2nd prompt had the Save Password checkbox beneath it, so I check that and clicked Continue. I closed iTunes and went into Keychain Access and verified the iTunes Store password entry was there again. I closed that and restarted again. So far iTunes has not asked me for the password again, with Music, Apps, and Books as well as "Always check for available downloads" all checked. We'll see how long this lasts...

    I've had this problem for awhile and now it's reached a point where I can't use iTunes at all! I USED to be able to enter my password and it would be happy and I could go about my business on iTunes.  Now, when I enter my password it just keeps popping up over and over again.  If I hit Cancel the pop up goes away but iTunes then crashes in about 5 seconds.  Can't do anything in iTunes including making purchases! Perhaps if Apple sees that purchases are down, they might step up trying to find a solution!

    Hi guys,


    I tried something similar to what Mister-O wrote. WORKED PERFECTLY for me:


    1.) Quit all appliacations

    2.) Open Keychain and search for "itunes". Delete all entries that come up

         (for me there was just one for my Apple-ID for the iTunes store)

    3.) Restart the Mac. Open iTunes and type in your password when asked for.

    4.) Quite iTunes and check in Keychain. Suprisingly NO new entry for the iTunes Store is created.


    That worked for my MB and MBP using the same Apple-ID. Both running 10.6.8.


    I hope that will fix that annoying bug for a few of you, too.

    I hope you are onto a fix for this annoyance!  Let us know if this fix will keep the password irritation away!  Like quite a few people before you, they thought they had "the fix" only to be bitten by the wolf again in a few days! For everyone's sake, I hope this is the cure!  Keep us updated!  I have the problem and it seems to come and go and I have not been able to figure out what brings it on.  Over the last several days I have not been asked for my password.  Meanwhile, last week my iTunes icon was bouncing like a basketball constantly as it was asking for my password!  Good Luck!

    That's pretty akqward. iTunes needs to get the password info from somewhere. Maybe that's your problem.


    Try this:

    In the "advanced" section of the iTunes preferences hit "reset warnings" and quit iTunes. Open Keychains and delete all iTunes related keychains (if there are any left...). Restart your mac, open iTunes, type in your password and enable automatic downloads.

    Now there should be an keychain for itunes (It sometimes takes a little till they listed). Confirm that iTunes has access to it.

    For some reason, I'm not able to edit my first entry.


    Keychain does create a new keychain for iTunes Store. I just didn't look in the right section. Sorry.....

    This problem has just gone away on its own for me. I haven't done anything to change the settings. Maybe I messed around with logging in and iut of the iTunes store, but that's about it.
