How to set up external MIDI keyboard on GB for iOS?

I bought an iRig MIDI interface that hooks up a regular MIDI keyboard with the iPad2.

When I run the iRig MIDI Recorder app that comes with the hardware, both MIDI IN and MIDI OUT are working fine. i.e. I can record music on the iPad from the MIDI keyboard and I can also send MIDI music from the iPad to the MIDI keyboard.

However, I am getting no where when I try to use the MIDI keyboard with GarageBand for iPad. I cannot find any instruction on how to set up GB to recognize the MIDI keyboard. There are some videos on Youtube showing GB/iOS works fine with a USB/MIDI keyboard but no setup instructions. And there is nothing on how non-USB MIDI devices work through the iRig MIDI connection.

Can someone give me some pointers? A link to a doc or video?

I'd like to qualify my questions a little bit. GB/iOS is picking up the MIDI signals from the MIDI keyboard. But GB is not sending the MIDI signals back to the MIDI keyboard during playback. The MIDI OUT LED does not blink during playback, which indicate there is no MIDI OUT coming from the iPad. When iRig MIDI Recorder App plays back a recording, the MIDI OUT LED lights up and the music plays back on the MIDI keyboard. Apparently, this is not a connection problem, it is a GarageBand set up issue.

Perhaps I should ask another question: Does GarageBand for iPad output MIDI at all?
