Cannot connect to YouTube

I just noticed that my YouTube app will not work. When I try to open it I get a message that pops up saying "Cannot Connect to YouTube." I've tried enabling restrictions and turning YouTube off and then back on. I've tried resetting network connections. I've tried a hard restart, and turning my iPhone off and then back on. I've tried connecting via 3G and over wifi (no success with either). I'm at a total loss. I've had so many problems with my phone since the iOS 5.0.1 update came out, it's ridiculous. My wife's iPhone 4 YouTube app works great. I can access YouTube from the YouTube website, it just seems to be my app that doesn't work. How can I fix this?

I'm also having the same problem. It started very randomly as I was using the YouTube app just last night w/o any problems. Some of my apps also say things like connect to iTunes to push notifications. I also have a new iPhone 4s that isn't jail broken. Please help as I'm about to throw the phone into a wall. I've had nothing but problems since upgrading from the 3GS.

I ultimately fixed my YouTube app by restoring my phone. I called Apple, and they told me "search YouTube in the App store and see if there was an update." dumb advice coming from Apple since the app is preloaded on every device, and therefore has no updates from the App Store. I just connected my phone to iTunes and chose to restore. After that it worked great again. Try that and see if it works again.

Only acceptable fix I have found is a workaround. Move the nonworking youtube app icon to a cluster such as "games" or "utilities" just to get it off of your home screen because you can't delete it. Next, via safari, go to youtube. From youtube's home screen, click on the action button at the bottom of the browser - the arrow jumping out of a box. Select "add to home screen" and you are done. If you prefer the full home page rather than mobile version, select that as your view on youtube first.

I have the same problem, YouTube App error "Can't Connect to Youtube" on my iPad. It was working fine. I have found a couple of odd issues with the connection problem I'm having.

  • Only getting the error on my home network. At the office network behind a firewall, the youtube app works fine. (Nothing has changed on the home networ, it has been restarted once I found that the app was work at the office, but not at home.
  • If select subscriptions in the YouTube App screen, the app brings up all of the users I subcribe to, but the video list is blank.
  • Opening a youtube link from Safari, starts the Youtube App and the video plays perfectly, but the list of related videos is empty, as is the list of other videos by the user
  • I can watch videos by going to m.youtube.com and that works just fine.

My ipad is not jailbroken, it's an iPad 3.

I've tried resetting the iPad, resyncing to iTunes (plugged in), and a myriad of other suggestions from this forum and others.

In addition I've reset / restarted my router.

Anyone else seeing the youtube app work on some wifi networks and routers but not on others.
