iTunes not connecting to Apple TV with latest 10.5.1 update

The odd thing is that I can play some of my songs through the Apple TV interface but not through iTunes. I keep getting error number -15000 in iTunes. It used to all work great until this lastest update. My iPhones connect to the Apple TV without a hitch. I tried both wired and wireless connections on the Apple TV.

I'm running iTunes 10.5.1, the latest Apple TV software (as of this comment), Windows 7, 64 bit.

Hi again,

I restarted my computer and Apple TV2 several times but I still can't stream my iTunes (version 10.5.1) to my Apple TV (I get error -15000). This connectivity all worked fine until I updated to the latest version of iTunes. I can, however, Airplay my iPhones to the Apple TV2.

Any help, or thoughts, would be much appreciated.

SOLUTION to iTunes not connecting to Apple TV with latest 10.5.1 update

Here's what I did to allow iTunes to connect with my Apple TV2:

For some reason the latest install of iTunes (10.5.1.42) did not properly add entries in the Windows Firewall. I even tried reinstalling iTunes from Apple's site. So, I needed to add iTunes to allow list in the Windows Firewall.

> click on the Windows Start icon

> in the "Search for programs and files" input field type the word Firewall

> click on "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" link

> in the Allowed Programs window, click on the "Allow another program" button

> choose iTunes and click the Add button

This is worked for me.

I am having the same issue and tried the proposed fix. In the firewall settings, iTunes was already checked so I unchecked the box then I went back into the firewall settings to recheck the iTunes box. I'm still having the same problem with iTunes not communicating with AppleTV2. I am wondering if it might have something to do with the 4.4.3 AppleTV update.

Home shareing is now definitely not working on my iMac, Mac Book Pro and Apple TV2 after itunes 10.5.1 update. Turning home shareing off and on gets to the login window but as soon as I click "done" the share tab disapears from itunes. This happens on both Macs: iMac with snow leopard and new Macbook Pro with lion. Apple TV2 cannot find my media library, which renders it not fit for purpose as I cannot play films or music via main TV/hi-fi.

This problem appears to have been going on for some time so Apple, please extract digit and sort it!😠

Not working for me either. Window 7 64-bit. Everything Apple is allowed through public and private Windows Firewall. I noticed that if I start the Bonjour service from the command line, then I start iTunes, it writes the following messages:

C:\Program Files\Bonjour>mDNSResponder.exe -server

I think it is important to note that there could be more than one issue here...

I mentioned earlier that I had the intermittent problems with Home Sharing dropping out while viewing content from my Windows 7 PC on my ATV2. The only resolution is to close iTunes and restart it, at which time Home Sharing reappears on the ATV2. Yet I seem to be able to Sync wirelessly and I can stream content from my iTunes via Airplay to my Apple TV or my Airport Express with no really issues or interuptions. I have checked the power settings on my PC and the NIC and PC in general is not using any power saving modes.

This is not the same as: "I can never connect to Home Sharing" or "My IOS device cannot sync Wirelessly", which I will concede could very well be a port/firewall setting as it is constent.

Just an observation and clarification.

I will be trying the possible workaround to turn off the Wireless Sync on our iPod Touch units in order to see if it is just a conflict between the two functions (Home Sharing & WIreless Sync). This could be a viable temporary solution as the isse really began with the introduction of the wireless sync feature.

I am having the same issues. I can always push music to the AppleTV with AirTunes, but AppleTV will only see my PC for about 5 minutes before I have to restart the Home Share on that machine. It seems to be an iTunes/Computer issue - the same PC also dissapears from the remot app on my iPhone.

I know my network is set up because I have a second PC that stays on Home Share group for extended periods and I can stream from my ATV.

I have tried:

Turn off Windows Firewall

Turn off wireless syncing of iPhone

Turn off Windows streaming

Change streaming security to lower level from 128

Pretty frustrated at this point.

I was reading this and debugging my issue. Here is my configuration:

Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate running iTune 10.6 as my Home Share server

Apple TV2

2 iPhone 4S

1 iPad 2

1 new iPad

I have been having intermittent problem with Home Share and last night I completely lost my Apple TV Home share no matter how many times I rebooted my PC. This morning as I am debugging this problem and read about various solutions which people have and noticed that a few of the people was able to solve the problem with fixing the Windows Firewall, so I started there. And here is what I found:

  1. When I started the Firewall's "Allowed Program" list, I noticed an anomaly. I have 2 iTune in the list with one allowed for public network and the other for private network. I clicked on the detail for the one with public access but the strange thing is that this is not pointing to the iTune exe but is empty.
  2. So I decided to remove this but when I click on it, the "Remove" button was not enabled
  3. Now I reset the Firewall setting which basically removed all the program's access
  4. Added iTune back in as an allowed program with private access
  5. It is still not working
  6. Out of frustration, I turned off Firewall for my private network and immediately the Home Share pop up on my iPhone
  7. Now, I turned the Firewall back on and is working
  8. Don't know how long it'll last but at least now I know it is the FireWall.

My suspicion is that during one of the many iTune update, the Firewall entry was not updated properly and left a phantom iTune setup behind. Hope this helps.

Same issue (well never worked, never tired before =) between two Win7 SP1 64. iTunes 10.6.0.40

Adding iTunes again in FW as allow didn't helped.

I stopped the win firewall but still not even could ping (cmd ping 192...) each other.

Works after I Turned Off the Win firewall for private networks (ping and share)

I will now go thru all Apple entries in my Windows firewall and re-enable it.

Again for troubleshoot, Stop Windows Firewall service wasn't working, Turn off firewall worked .

Cheers
