Q: So many problems with iTunes Match...

So far my experience with iTunes Match has been horrible. I keep getting a ton of unmatched songs that absolutely should be matched, and lots of upload errors.

For example, the album "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zeppelin.... http://i.imgur.com/RscRg.png

After toying around with it for a while, i found that sometimes using iTunes to create an AAC version of a unmatched song, the newly created AAC version does get matched. Not sure why this is, as the original unmatched files are 320bit MP3s.

Another issue I've found is that albums are not sorting correctly on my iPhone with iTunes Match active. I use dougscripts in iTunes to copy the release year of all my albums into the "sort album" meta data field. So that way on my ipod or iphone albums are sorted chronologically. Through iTunes match, none of my albums are being sorted correctly. Its not even that they're sorted alphabetically instead of chronologically. They're just listen in what seems like a completely random order.

Yet another MAAAJJJOOORRR complaint is with the album art. I am very meticulous about my album art. Every album in my library has album art displayed. My first step in getting album art is trying to get album art through iTunes. Most of the time this works fine. For the ones that dont, I just search google images and copy and paste the album art in... What I'm finding though, is that all my albums with album art gotten through iTunes, is not showing up on my iPhone when using iTunes Match. But albums where I had to paste a image in to iTunes, those do show up on my iPhone. This is not 100% consistent, but pretty close.

Overall I am very disappointed with iTunes Match so far. The Apple philosophy of "it just works" certainly does not apply to this product.

Im going to wait it out another couple of days or a week or so, and if things don't get better, I'll be calling in asking for a refund.

I would prefer to pay really more if it worked ! Like Spotify for instance.

I do agree Michel, I just think the problems need a bit of perspective. I'm sure it will improve over time (then on the other hand, perhaps we shouldn't be expected to pay for a 'beta service' which doesn't yet work properly)

Indeed Major.  Amounts to a few cups of Starbuck's for me and the wife...

Careful though...the flamers lie in wait for just these sorts of debates.  Me?  I've better things to do.  Like seeing if my cover art is still intact...

    It is!  Woo hoo!

Hi Just wanted to add my twopeneth to this thread.  Hope that's ok?  I downloaded Match and was shocked at how it completely messed my library up - again like others the artwork was bizare and odd tracks were appearing from nowhere!  The most annoying thing to me was - that everything I had downloaded on my apple account was imported to my itunes library - this was BAD!  My son, husband and 2 daughters and in fact my mother make purchases on my account (with my authorisation of course!) - I was flooded with nonsense music!  I waitied almost 24hours to establish what was happening - so I cancelled the syncing and insisted on a refund.  What a load of mess I had to sort.  I wonder though - even now that I have cancelled and got my refund - is it this that has now messed up how I add to  playlists - as every time I try to add to a playlist I get warned that it will be removed from icloud - "yeah.... and?....."

I've also had the looping issues as mentioned before, it basically stops at certain points in the status bar and then starts again. This issue may have something to do with my upgrade to a MacBook Pro with iTunes 11 as the sync didn't go to plan and I had to do it manually. I've tried all the tricks from around the internets, stopping and re-starting iTunes Match, Deauthorizing/Reauthorize, rebuilt my library, deleting the SC Info folder but still run into the same problem. I've been intouch with Apple via email requesting a reset but they keep directing me to the trouble shooting page which has no relating info on it. My next trick is letting my renewal expire (which is up next week), give it a few weeks and apply for iTunes Match again and hope my old match is deleted and reset, start a fresh. Fingers crossed it works.

I live in France speak French & English my iMac is on OS X 10.8.2 (12C60) IN ENGLISH my iTune account is here in France in French BUT neither of the languages helps for the great problems I have with Match. I've basically followed every thread and nothing, I've done everything to get ALL my music onto this system.

IT DOESN'T WORD. If the people who can help ever had to sort this themselves they'd give up and ask for a remboursement, unfortunately they don't pay back the time, effort and fustration they cause.

I've even looked on the store and the same music tracks are available for sale. If try to use thissystem to match my CD's or digital LP's they are left with tracks unmatched. Why can't this thing work.

Today the iTunes store, for me in France, has not been able to access their updates?? Neither via iPod Touch neither iMac so where is the excellent service?? The only one which seems to be able to update today is the Apple TV!

So is there anyone who can offer a help that finds out why these odd tracks do not get uploaded and are marked as "waiting" 5680 plus tracks are uploaded, BUT I have 21 plus days of music available to me ONLY if I'm in front of the computer ....

I too had the infinite loop problem.  I've also had other problems with new tracks (added from emusic) not showing up in the library until I shut Match off.

My solution is simple, I turned off Match, turned off auto renew in the store.  Buh-bye.

    Hi!

I know this is not a solution, but maybe can make you feel better while Apple improve this service. I'm really obsesive too about the album art and data.

I was really mad when I note there was a few album arts wrong and even when I change them they go back to the wrong images. So I do this and it works to me: it's tricky, it's honestly a pain in the ***… but it works.

    • I take all the songs with wrong things —album art, composers, artists, and stuff— and copy them into a temporary location out of iTunes.
    • Then I deleted all the songs, iTunes asked me if it delete the songs also on iTunes Match, I said yes and I made sure it was deleted with my Phone or watching at the iTunes Match tab seeing the amount of songs is the same as the new amount on iTunes after I delete the songs.
    • I turned off iTunes Match, and take back the songs into iTunes. All songs have all the data they had when I take them out of iTunes so it did'nt mean it makes a mess.
    • I change all the things wrong with the songs, making sure I like the way songs were.
    • I turned on iTunes Match, and sync it…
    • It worked and I was able to sleep again —When I say I'm obsesive, I really mean it.

Maybe this won't make you feel happier, but at least can make you feal peacefull while this guys take care about this f*¿king issue.

An extra tip is that you can drag and drop music directly from iTunes to a folder, and when you take it back, you can drag and drop the music into a temporary playlist to make things easier.

PS: Sorry about my english, I'm not a native english speaker.

iTunes has crashed at some point in the "Uploading remaining songs and artwork..." step every time I open the program.  The only way I can actually use iTunes now is to interrupt the iTunes Match process or turn Match off.  I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes yet...maybe that's the next step.

Hi Andrew.  That sounds very frustrating.  Generally speaking issues with iTunes Match are most often caused by the content itself (sounds like that may be what you're experiencing) and/or some technical problems.

AFAIK reinstalling iTunes hasn't made a difference for anyone here.

There are a lot of resolutions posted in this thread and elsewhere so you might want to do a little research.

With respect to some oddities surrounding tracks that won't upload, cause iTunes Match to crash or are missing artwork and such, you could have a look at some of my old posts (you might have to scroll down on some to find them)...

It's still not perfect but after some "tyding up" of my library I've been able to get it to work fairly normally on all of our Macs and iDevices now.

Hope that helps and let us know how it goes!

I seem to be getting through it -- seems that somewhere in a crash some stuff got duplicated, so there was an "iCloud error" version of the file, and a "just fine" version.  So, I deleted the "error" versions and everything's cool.

Finally took the time to fix the file structure issues caused by some iTunes upgrade a while back (switched my default music folder from "iTunes Music" to "iTunes Media > Music" -- creating a dual file structure in the process. Wasn't too bad, though, and miraculously, iTunes seemed to pick up on what I was doing, because it didn't ask me to point it to files' new locations - not a single time.

Great news!  Fingers crossed it all goes well now.

iTunes Match isn't one of Apple's finest moments, but it's much better than it was when first offered and has improved with age.  Hopefully all of the bugs will be ironed out sooner than later becuase when it's working it is a great little application for the price.

    Cheers!

Oh, did I ever speak too soon...  iTunes is chock full of errors now.  Missing songs left and right, even after I delete them from the library and redownload them from the cloud...somehow they go missing again.  grrrr....
