iPhone 4s low earphone volume problem

anyone else having this issue? my earphone volume often would lower itself by about half the volume I set to, and doesnt revert back to the original level, it seems it happens most often when I receives a notification when I got the earphone plugged in. I checked the volume lock, still shows that it's on max, and the volume adjustment buttons shows it did not change.

I had tried unplug and replug the earphone, also tried rebooting the phone, does seems to restore the volume.

The volume sometimes restores itself if I receives a notification, or launch a game, or enlarge a web page via safari... but the chances to restore the volume is still pretty low.

This is happening for me on iOS 5 and iOS 5.01, affecting both music and vidoes, doesnt affect notification or games.

NOT HAPPY 😟

Mine did the same today iPhone 4s with the latest iOS 5.1 . The headphone volume was set at max and suddenly only gave about 50% output !!. Didn't matter what I did the volume would not get any louder. After I connected to Siri it went back to normal ??. There must be a bug but it has not been sorted out in the first update.

Have organized a replacement after talking to apple support . They said sounds like a phone problem, also they said the yellow screen was a good enough reason. I was promised a brand new one not a refab. :-) hope its better then the first one. The volume issue is a killer. Compared to my iPod touch the 4s gives about 50% less volume

I've been having the same problem too. Listening to music, and suddenly the volume drops for no apparent reason. If I turn on Pandora or go running with Nike+, it goes back to normal. After quitting those apps though, the volume decreases once again.

I'm able to get around this by going to settings-> sounds and just sliding the ringer and alerts volume slider once or twice, seems to re-adjust the volume back to nornal. (iphone 4s ios 5.0)

i've also had the same problem with my 3GS (running ios 4.3.3) when using nike plus. I live in an area where it regularly gives me notifications about weak gps signals. when i get the notifications, it kills my music volume by 50% too. very annoying.

Yesterday I had been playing around with the settings on my iPhone 4S (5.0.1) and changed the volume limit in settings but noticed it didn't take effect right away unless it was locked with a password. I inadvertently left the volume on a low setting and closed the app. Today I had plugged in headphones and noticed the volume wasn't playing full volume. I plugged in my sister's headphones...same problem. Plugged my headphones in her iPhone 4 and it worked. Just happen to go back to settings and saw it was a lowered volume limit issue. Also to note, there are bugs that when using Siri, cause your "media volume" to sky rocket. Opening and closing siri was always the fix for my problem.

shoaib3,I had the exact same issue: always (no exception) extremely low sound levels from the small ear speaker, but normal loud sound from headphones and speaker.

This was solved by REMOVING THE PLASTIC FILM PROTECTION FROM THE FRONT SCREEN.

It covers the ear speaker and totally muffles the sound from it. I just cut out a piece of the foil to leave the earspeaker uncovered.

Apple did not pay attention to this little detail, and of course many users leave this protection on as it came out of the box.

Hope this helps you,

Mark
