Using Gmail as Exchange account:

Hi. This may be a dumb question but I'm new to iPhone. I have the new iPhone 4S and have several email accounts that I had set up to forward through my Gmail account. That was working fine except I didn't have my Calendar. So I figured out how to set up Gmail as an Exchange account, and that worked....now I have my calendar. But my question now is: Can I now delete my original Gmail account on the iPhone?? In other words, if I delete that account, will the new Gmail Exchange account still forward my other email accounts to my iPhone? Right now I'm getting duplicate copies of everything because both accounts are on there. But I don't want to delete anything until I know that won't affect anything else. Thank you.
