iphone update problems

I updated my iphone 4 with the new update on itunes. My iphone froze and i was advised to restore to factory settings. I did this, my iphone was then restored with my back up. My music and apps were not restored onto my phone? and now when i try to drag them in itunes into my phone, the little no entry sign appears. Can anyone help please??
