Snow Leopard cannot install to this computer

Here's my stats:

Black macbook circa 2008

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook4,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 800 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MB41.00C1.B00

I recently had to replace my harddrive. I used the same install disc I got my laptop with (Leopard) since I lost my Snow Leopard upgrade disc. A friend let me use his Snow Leopard install disc and it says cannot install Snow Leopard to this computer. Why the change of heart, laptop? Anyone else run into this problem?

If they were the gray disks, it will not work. Those disks are system-specific.

You could just buy a new SL retail online.

It was indeed the grey discs. That's a shame I'll have to buy it again. I wonder if it's possible to redownload it if I've bought it already but dont have the discs anymore.

No download on SL anymore. But be glad it is SL retail disk ($29) and not Leopard retail disk ($199).
