iOS 5.1 severe problems to connect to a mobile phone network

My iPhone stopped working as a phone.

Can't make/send or receive calls and text messages after updating to iOS 5.1.

It's like the phone function of the iPhone has been disabled.

When I check my settings it appears that it is connected to my local service provider. In the top left hand corner of the screen I only get one connectivitiy bar.

No matter where I am.

What can I do? How can I fix this or do I have to wait untill the guys at Apple Inc. come up with iOS 5.2?

I'm having similar issues since I updated to iOS 5.0.1. My phone is showing full connectivity to my carrier but it won't connect. I can't seem to get onto my work's wireless network either. I can access my apps but none of them will update with real time feed.

Anyone have any solutions? I haven't tried a system restore yet but I may do so once I'm at home. Really hope this gets fixed ASAP; I depend on my phone for my work and personal life and this is causing a big problem. 😟

I have the same problem as laurafromwexford. But resetting network settings doesn't help. Before the latest update iOS5.01, I could reset network settings and it would work for a while, but then it would lose functionality again. So I was happy to get the update, thinking of course Apple would have resolved the issue. But now that I have installed the update, resetting network settings no longer solves the problem.

I have 3G phone and was perfectly happy with it until I installed iOS 5. This looks like a strategy shift for Apple. Send out killer software so everyone has to get new phone!

After updating the firmware iOS 5.0.1 on my iphone4s I have problems with sending SMS, calls. The phone very often loses the signal and wifi network. Now the phone during a call or send SMS loses signal network, and only then when he once again finds the network, you can make calls and send SMS. Problems with quick battery remain. détente What is going on? How to solve the problem?

Same here bro 😟

its only been happening a couple hours... have tried all tips that apple give just short of a full restore (including ressetting network settings)

iphone shows full connection to carrier (vodacom, down here in South Africa).

Please, besides a restore, if you can find a solution to this, post. down here in SA we do not have enough internet bandwidth to download iOS restore/update files. my school will not let me through, and i do not have an internet connection at home (and public wi-fi, well thats terrible too).

Non-jailbroken, bought early this year, direct from vodacom.

Yesterday I had this problem, no service providers, cannot make any phone calls or send/receive text messages.

but then after 4 hours, it went back to normal.....weird!

I thought it only happened one time/day thing....then today, i had my phone working perfectly normal in the morning. Til i entered and exit the subway and had the whole thing ****** up again...no service providers, cannot make/receive any calls, cannot send/receive text messages. I realized that my phone didn't work starting at 1pm, then at 4pm, it went back to normal again...BUT i had to restart the phone like 20-30 times....and when i keep trying to call my voicemail..it hangs...it didn't want to end the call. But after 4pm, it works perfectly normal, and i got a notification saying i have 10 voicemail....great!

I HATE THIS PHONE RITE NOW! I used to love and cherish apple but this makes me really frustrated! i hate it!

Update to all:

Tried the Reset function, doesn't work for me. I still cannot send out outgoing SMS. Network still unstable.

MsJah,

To save time and cumbersome restarting the phone everytime you lost your network. Try this, it works for me.

Prolly you need to wait 30 to 60 secs to have the reception/network resume.

Just find a phone number to call. Outcome will be "Failed Call". But after few seconds, your phone will automatic "Searching" for the network.
