Custom ringtone

I made a ringtone from a song in iTunes 10.5.1, now the .m4r won't go into the Tones list. Neither will it won't go to my iPhone 4 (ios5) as a ringtone. It will show up as a song in my Music list in iTunes.

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.5.8), iTunes 10.5.1, [Phone 4 ios5)

You are wrong. I did it using iTunes 10.5.2 (11) and Lion 10.7.2.

Of course, there's no one click make ringtone button.

Here's how I did it.

1. Select a title (.mp3) in your iTunes Library

2. Do File > Get Info on selected title

3. In the dialog choose Options tab

4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)

5. Close dialog.

6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version

7. After the creation is finished, delete the Start & End time changes.

8. Delete the newly create title. (no worries here)

9. Open the Trash, rename the title from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r

10. Drag it out of trash into iTunes

Now you have a ringtone.

Make sure it is selected in iTunes for syncing with your new iPhone.

Thank you for all your help. Most of the music I have downloaded from iTunes is in the protected AAC audio or purchased AAC audio. iTunes will not allow me to convert to MP3 on the protected music. The music that I have in the .mp3 does not have a create AAC when I do a control click on the title but will allow me to create another MP3. I am sure you must find this frustrating to help me and once again, thank you.

Cheers-

Walt

Are you using Windows or Mac?

The TRON soundtracks ringtones I've created are also purchased from iTunes. They are also AAC codecs. The file name e.g. The Grid.m4a.

For Mac, use the Steps as outlined and in point 1. you can use .mp3 or .m4a

Between 9 & 10, drag the converted ringtone (.m4r) to the Finder first then select Tones (iTune's left panel).

Do point 10.

Hope it helps.😉
