Square bracket numbered bullets for Citations

Is it possible to use numbered bullets in square brackets? There are many options to use numbered bullets but none for square brackets.

I need to cite some documents for referencing and I don't wish to use EndNote. I can also write in the following way:

[1] XYZ, "..."...

and so on...

Problem arises when a citation is multi-line and [1] needs to be in a different column as apposed to the citation context.

How would this work?

Hello,

I'm using the latest version of Pages for Mavericks (5.2.2) to write my report and I have about 40 references. Is there any easier way to add a bullet list using square bracketed numbers as the bullets? As mentioned, the only options available use round, standard brackets.
