iTunes Match vs. Play Counts

Hello everyone - I need some help.

I signed up for Match last night, and it matched/uploaded just about all of my music. I've been messing with it today trying to figure out how it works, and ran into an error that I can't figure out - play counts.

I downloaded a new album (CAMP by Childish Gambino, if you're wondering), imported it into iTunes, uploaded it to iCloud/Match, and it was listed as "Matched." The album showed up on my iPhone and my iPad. Perfect!

I listened to it a few times on my phone, rated a few songs, etc, then opened up iTunes to see what it did. It pulled down the ratings from the cloud, but not the play counts. I plugged my phone in and synced (wifi sync wasn't connecting due to an unknown error) in hopes that an itunes sync would pull the play counts down, but no luck...

Anyone else tried this or have a similar experience? I have a few playlists built around play counts and would really like to have my play counts updated. Thanks!

Now, in addition to this, for the past week my playlists have not been updating on my iPhone. Last night, I noticed that somehow iTunes match had been turned off on iTunes on my computer, so I reactivated it (i was bracing myself for some sort of horrific playcount disaster but thankfully that didn't happen). Still, my iPhone playlists have not been updated to reflect changes I've made in iTunes in over a week now. I've tried resetting my phone, disabling/re-enabling iTunes match on the phone but nothing has changed yet. Just when I was learning to live with the delay in updating my playcounts now this issue with my playlists appears. My library is meticulously organized by playlist and to not have them updating on my phone is a huge aggravation. These are not smart playlists, although some of them are ordered by playcount (which results in out of sequence track order, of course). Apple...please; this is one of the most active discussions on iTunes match and after nearly 6 months this bug has not been addressed!

I had exactly the same problem at about the same time, jnez.me. After noticing playlists had disappeared from iOS devices, I noticed Match was off on my Mac. Turned it back on, still no playlists.

I had SOME success by changing the rules of smart playlists (e.g., instead of 50 songs, changed it to 51). That forced those playlists to update on my iOS devices. The rest of the playlists are still gone after a week or so.

And play counts are still a mess. Sometimes they do update, but never right; for example, I played a song once on my iPhone, and now it shows a play count of 2 in iTunes. ***.

I purchased the iTunes match a few months ago. I believe this will solve my issue of having to carry my 160GB ipod (which is full and won't store all my music) as well as my iPhone.

Apple, can we please at least have an acknowledgement that this is in the works of being fixed? Maybe an admin can post on this thread... something? I almost feel slighted that I paid my annual fee for the service I read about and was excited to receive and yet it's not accurate. In my case as well as many others on this thread, it's actually not usable.

I found this on another post about iTunes Match. It might help ease some mind's as I was unaware it released with Beta status. Give it a look, I'm not real sure how credible the author is but at least it's some sort of information and we aren't all just in the dark. It seems as if we are all still guinea pigs the article states once the 12 or 15 months is over Apple will remove our iTunes Match account and we will have to go through the process again. What do you guys think?

VeryQueasy: The article is wrong. iTunes Match is out of beta and is a regular release. There was a beta, but it was closed in November 2011 before the regular release. There are no beta references on the current iTunes Match page:

Here's an article about the general release:

This is happening to me too. Play songs on iTunes PC and then a day or so later the play count reduces. Sometimes last played date is still there which means sometimes there is a Last Played date but play count of zero. Very strange and very annoying.

This seems to happen whether I play the song on iTunes on PC or on iPod classic or iPod nano. It's been happening ever since I signed up to iTunes Match.

This problem has been there since launch and I've seen no acknowledgement from Apple that there is an issue. Does anyone know if or when this is going to be fixed?

Thanks

I decided to give itunes match another shot after getting a refund on it a couple of months ago. I re-subscribed and set up my work computer to match my Macbook Pro. Everything between these two Macs works like a charm. I decided to test itunes Match on my ipad (the iOS experience is why I dumped it the first time - missing play counts, not updating, etc.). I played a random song at 7:20 this morning on the ipad before heading to work. To my amazement, when I got to work at 8:05, the song showed up as played on my work itunes, including the correct play counts and last played date (5/31/12 7:20 am). Hopefully it will continue to work.
