Unfortunately having the play count update is not very useful unless it also updates the Last Played Date.

Is Last Played getting updated eventually (when the count is) or is that never getting updated.

I have not yet seen my play counts or my last played stats updated, even 48 hours later.  As an additional experiment, I erased the iTunes library on a MacBook and connected it to the matched library.  Although it showed all music and the correct play counts/last played (as they were at that moment in the source library,) once I started playing tracks on each device separately they no longer synched play counts or last played - each incremented on their own device with no sync.

I don't think this can be written off to high traffic - the MacBook connected and showed all 15,000 song right away.  Plus, deleting playlists on the MacBook deleted them on the source library, in less than 1 minute.

I had a few playcounts show up (not everything) that I played from my iPhone, but last played was not updated.  Today, play counts are disappearing.  I'm listening to a Rolling Stones album & playcounts were being updated as I was listening to each track.  I came back later to finish the album & noticed that playcounts are now missing from some tracks.  Last played is showing they were played though.

And as soon I say this all my playcounts for the album disappear.  Last played is still showing that they were played.

I have noticed a change in behavior today.  Since release, I have been using my MacBook Air for work and listening to smart playlists dependent upon last played and play counts.  It was working beautifully (you can trigger the icloud sync by changing the Equalizer setting and then changing it back) however today it's not working.  I assume it's something on Apple level as playcounts and last played are disappearing.

I'm glad you had it working at some point but was it really "working beautifully" if you have to change the Equalizer setting every time you want it to submit info?

  • childs12111 Level 1 Level 1

Agreeded, it would work even more beautifully if it just pushed it after each song played.   I guess I was just saying to get it to sync immediately as opposed to how some people said it would after a while, a little hint was to change the EQ setting.

Thats cool every little bit of info helps. Were you changing the EQ settting for each song or the one in iTunes where you turn it on or off?

Edit: oddly, I haven't had my playcounts updated since I reported yesterday that it did (once).

I made a smart playlist of songs I played that day, and every now and then I would go to that playlist and just change the setting in one of the "played" songs...that would "trigger" the cloud sync.  However as of this morning (US Central) it wasn't working anymore, and I have been experiencing a lot of the issues the others have.

Here is an interesting little bit...On my work computer, I added a song to a playlist and changed the rating from 4 stars to 5.  I used "Back to my mac" to check my home computer and the rating of the song didn't change, however it was on the playlist I had just added it to from my work computer.  So it seems that somehow, the syncing has decided to only sync select portions.  I will update if the ratings ever come in line.

did anyone find a resolution to the playcount/last played update not happening propperly? it's happening to me, and my music listening habits depend on this updating!, while this is fixed i'm switching back to normal sync on my iPod.

I just wanted to chime in that this is not working for me either.

I have not seen playing a song on my iPhone update the play count or last played on iTunes on my Mac.

I have not seen playng a song on Apple TV update the play count or last played on iTunes on my Mac.

LIke many others here, my listening habits depend on these fields so this is a show stopper for me.

My hope is that since its reported to have worked in a beta that its a quick fix in a 10.5.2 release that i hope to see real soon. I am happy with match otherwise, I like to have had more "matched", but i spent 20 days uplouding to google music a few months ago, so 20 hours last week was much better.
