Q: iTunes Match Step 1 is stuck!  What can I do?

I started iTunes Match and it gets stuck on Step 1.  It looks like it is 99.99% done and it just stalls.  It has been 20 hours and wont budge.  I have restarted, reinstalled, and started over 4-5 times.  What can i do?  It is not even at the upload or match phase...

Bad duplicates is one reason why match could stall. But I don't think that's the issue being discussed here. The problem here is about match is looping in the process of trying to upload unmatched songs. Some people were able to work around this by using another internet connection. Like me, I thered my Mac to my iPhone.

Cant believe deleting the SC Info in the /Users/Shared folder did the trick !

Thanks so much, the endless loop has now ended and iTunes Match works again.

This should be a definite Apple Support article, because it took me a full day to find this solution and Apple Support was no help, had to go into user forums....

Same problem here in Zurich, Switzerland!

I have spent a few hours trying to fix this, but it seems that the problem is on apple's side, since so many have the same problem. I hope they will fix it soon.

Deleting and SC Info folder did not help me one bit.

I created a playlist on my iPhone & iPad (which still shows my entire library) but can't download any songs back to the devices, keeps timing out & get "Can't connect to iTunes Store" errors.

Totally screwed.  And Apple says my Match library is only a few hundred, contrary to all my devices.

This is ridiculous!!  This problem occurs every year.  I would think by now they would have this figured out!!!

I first noticed the problem the other day.  Having to consistenlty sign in and then match stalling at step one several times.  I gurantee this is on the Itunes match server side and not ours.  I remeber last year around this time spending four hours on the phone with Apple Support.

This time I tried holding the shift key while starting the itunes match to reset it.  Nope did not work. I have reinstalled 3 times!!!

Its a waiting game from here.  Everytime this happens Itunes match destroys my songs inside my playlists.  All my hardwork putting playlist together to teach class and it goes to crap every year.  UGH!!

When Itunes Match works its great!  wish it would be consistent especially since we pay.  I don't think Google has these problems reguarly???

I have over 2000 songs in my library which my phone can't hold all of them wish it could thus Itunes Match.  Anyone have any suggestions for when I upgrade?

Apple do have an infrastructure issue, you need to log a call using your Apple Id by following the link from the Apple System Status page (http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/).

At present Apple is showing 'no issues' with the iTunes Match service - hence it is important to log the service failure.

While trying to fix corrupted albums and turning itunes Match desktop on and off as well as Ituens update ituens match started to hang. To see my adventures and solutiosn for fixing corrupted covers see:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3650114?start=15&tstart=0

I found that soemtimes Tiunes match desktop turned back on hung on library. Fixed by

    1. Turning itunes match off in status window where it says checking library. Little x??
    2. Closed itunes and let it finished saving library dialogue box
    3. Reopening.
    4. Got further step 1.
    5. Again closed ituens match
    6. Turned ituness desktop match off
    7. Closed
    8. Again open n es but with shift key to choose library(same library but in a sense paused it to look at it and index)
    9. Zoomed through stage 1
    10. Kept hanging sending to apple(may have been time of day dependent)
    11. Sometimes's closing sending data to apple status seemed to fix problem,
    12. Somtimes Turned itunes match off, Then back on and zipped through

Hope this of some use everyone - just spent about 2 hours on call with Apple senior advisor...

Basically tried everything from removing libraries and files and reimporting - even went through the library with MusicBrains Picard and checked and repaired metadata.

Anyway got all of the already posted errors, timeouts, failed delivery of iTunes results etc. So I did screen sharing between two macs in the house, one with the physical library files and one with no library at all (signed out of iTunes account).

One of the other fixes which certainly improved the response on iTunes was to completely reset Safari (unchecking history and cookies) Website data for some reason. Also going into Network setting and making a new Network location.

So I had had Match running for a couple days on the Mac that I thought was playing up, which was failing on Step 1. While talking to the apple advisor signed into the other mac with no library and all of sudden about half my library was sitting there nicely matched and available to listen to.

Back over on the main mac with the physical files we were still getting the usual errors, the Advisor even checked with some internal iTunes store people and they were saying everything was normal, that iTunes was connecting and currently querying the store... "normally".

So I have a growing library of matched files on one mac, and on the machine with with te files every single file says "Waiting" as the iCloud status - so I'm geussing the connections between iTunes and iTunes servers are probably not stable, certainly dont return consistant results to users.

This was for a new library to iCloud - not a renewal of the Match service.

Remember you have 90 days support of the newest OSX operating system if you've installed it, or as a Match user you're likely entitled to support of iTunes Match as you've paid for it for the year.

I ran a consolidation. That builds a new library without any hacking.

After that, I am no longer stuck att step 1.
