Pages ’09 / 4.1 Set Default Margins?

I want to change the default margins in Pages.app to something other than 1".

Can I do this? If so, how.

I know how to change the margins on any individual document but I want to change the DEFAULT margin size from 1" to .5".

Any ideas?

I want to set this for my company so that employees are not wasting paper and needlessly printing extra pages. You may have read about an effort and study to reduce paper usage through reduced default margins.

Create a template for your employees with the margins as you like them, set in the Document inspector.

Make that the default template in Pages' Preferences.

Attemted to save a mostly blank doc as a template with just margins altered and got the following error:

The document “Untitled” could not be exported as “My Word Processing.template”.

Any suggestions here?

That is exporting to .doc, not Menu > File > Save as Template…

Pages is not Word, not even a pretend Word like LibreOffice.

You also need to give the template a name.

I had to change the permissions on the My Templates folder. The only permissions were system:Read & Write and everyone:Read Only. I added myslef with Read & Write permissions.

~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates

Found an answer but it isn't exactly correct.

Odd that the My Templetes folder doen't allow the user to save to it. And my permissions are rebuilt nightly as part of my clone backup with SuperDuper.

I don't get your Word reference.

It seems that you made something wrongly or that something is corrupted in your system.

Here, the Save As Template feature behaves flawlessly.

You said Export instead Save as Template which are two different functions in Pages.

That is weird! For diagnostic purpose create a new user on the machine and try to do the procedure in that account and see if you get the same error message.
